MOT brake roller question

when the car is in neutral the transmission is disengaged effectively hence the prop shaft is not spinning. you can rotate a wheel on the axle without causing load on the centre diff aslong as the opposite wheel can also freely rotate in the opposite direction
only way i could possibly explain it is if you ever built/had 4wd tamiya remote control buggys as a kid you'd understand the principle more lol
Tamiya Vintage Hot Shot II - 4WD Buggy - Model 58062 - YouTube
watch at 1.30 where he rotates each axle without effecting the other axle. the same principals apply

Garage must be a bunch of muppets tbh!
I would have been going wild if they even tried to put mine anywhere near the brake rollers lol, I've even seen a garage before now jack the rear of the car off the ground to perform a break test, where and how do these idiots get the right to mot cars??

Tell me about it, and when we asked what he was up to his exact words and I quote were "it's fine I've been doing this game for years, if you don't like it you know what to do" fortunately we where only there to see if he had a press we could use to get a bearing out, I couldn't believe what I had seen, we were laughing all the way home LOL! It was an older Audi Quattro A4 iirc, some people are just great ain't they not sure what he was up to or if it was indeed on an mot slot but either way it was an eye opener

Just to add a bit about my experience of MOT tests in NI, I took my classic to get tested in June and it didn't go on the rollers. They drove the car to check them. I guess it's down to how knowledgeable the man on the day is. Before I went I did wonder how they checked the brakes as it's AWD. Also in the future I won't be allowing them to put it on the rollers.

Which one? Mine has been through balmoral for past 6yrs on the rollers with no issue as i know for a fact they have a specific set of single axle rollers for awd cars.

Mine went through Ards MOT centre yesterday (Northern Ireland) was in lane 4 till he noticed I was in the Subaru , he did emissions and headlights in lane 4 , moved to lane 3 for brake test , then back to 4 for the rest. Different rollers I presume.(as Gambit said)
