Please excuse my ignorance.

Just some good old fashion weight then.

So no one got any info on whether or not it has an effect on handling.

If it helps, when I removed mine I also had to remove my h-brace as that no longer fitted - with both removed I can honestly say I saw no adverse affects on my handling

Ok , found this
The frame ( c frame ) or whatever you choose to call it , is known by subaru as the cradling frame , it's design is to reduce engine to chassis - interior noise & functioned along side the chassis rigidly & compliance to handling .
The only official video I have came across is this 1 with a brief mention at 4.14

As other has said.. can drive without the 'cradle' with no adverse effects.
I did for about half a summer..
but I went to a scrappy's n got one from a Jap import, in much better condition n then Dinitrol'd it to slow the return of the oxide.

why did I spend cash on this???
just to put the under tray on to keep the worst of the winter (see location) out of the engine bay..
Just saying, if its your daily drive.. might be worth keeping the tray on there.
