Price you pay is:

Goods price

+

Delivery charge price

+

(goods price + delivery chrage price) * duty percentage (2.2 - 4.5% for engine parts)

+

(goods price + delivery chrage price) * VAT percentage (20%)

+

Dlivery company handling fee (around £15 for most)

20% of the value be it in pounds or otherwise.

For example

Let's say your goods are $1700 and the delivery is $300 so the total is $2000

On a dollar rate of 1.6 that means your costs are £1250.

So your total costs are:

£1250

+

£1250 * 4% duty = £50 (assuming duty at 4%)

+

£1250 * 20% VAT = £250

+

£15 delivery compnay admin fee

= £1565 total cost!

You also have to be careful of the dollar rate they use. If the published rate is 1.60 USD to the 1 GBP you may get them using a value quite a bit different to that. e.g. 1.50 meaning your total charges would then be £1668

Makes sense to go for it then.

As tempting as it is to ask for the goods value to be written down your biggest issue leaving aside customs then comes if the package goes missing or gets damaged as you only get back the insurance value based on the declared waybill value!

Agree with F1 fan and tidgy, not worth lying about it, and if they do open it up and check you will get stung for the tax anyway and possibly get into trouble.

I tried everything I could to get my manifolds in cheaper but it just wasnt happening, they have you royally screwed either way!

That's on the basis of $1.60 to the GBP.
It's about $1.57 at the mo, which is nearer £1,600.

Not being pernickety but it just goes to show how currency fluctuations can effect things.

We're off on holiday and could have had $1.60 to the GBP last week.
Took half our holiday money at $1.59, rest today at $1.57. Got an extra $120 over a few weeks back.

Anyway, I have relatives in the USA, and if anyone wants to try their luck I'm happy to approach them.

Yes, but what you can get at Taffy's Travel for your holiday pocket money has f**k all to do with the rate Shreksta will get charged when whatever delivery company he uses do their bit for HMRC.

I do this sort of thing all the time and it can be a lottery as to the rate used, but it is nevr as good as any published rate that's for sure!

Please stick to giving advice on things you actually know something about!!!!

well it looks like i shall be ordering from the us,the parts with shipping and insurance come in at just under $2000 where in this country they come it at around £2450 so even with the high duty, vat and delivery charge i should still see a massive saving

i save over £200 alone on the crank and bearings

i will of course do some home work at the time of ordering just to make sure

cheers for all the advice people

That is pretty good, seems alot more affordable than i originally thought. What have you got for the heads?

Have you gone over sized valves?

Admin fee(Handling fee) from UPS expect more than £20,last time we are ordered from USA OEM genuine seal kit which has come by UPS and package has been declared as £50 and we are paid £40 for this

UPS and ParcelForce taking more for Admin fees,DHL or FedEx is best(via FedEx declared at £400 we are paid £40)

Lastly usually my brother flying to USA where he buying all stuff, just due his flight ticket cost him around £200 and we are still save money on this

If its possible speak with someone who can post to you as Gift or as above guys suggest for testing purposes
