I'll stick to standard tyres.

Just because some idiot "might" hit you doesn't mean they will. Have you considered that you might be the idiot who gets caught out and is unable to stop rather than the guy behind you, or the guy infront of you who did stop thanks to winter tyres and you hit him because you are to selfish and arrogant to take simple precautions.

I really must remember that every driver in Britain is a superstar driving god and couldn't possibly be responsible for causing an accident. However it is amazing how many accidents there are in Britain in the winter bearing in mind you are all driving gods who can defy the laws of physics.
Don't waste your time, plenty on here are able to defy the laws of physics as they are just so talented! I am not sure why the rally and F1 teams aren't scouting these boards as Vettel and Loeb wouldn't stand a chance against most of these people

From what I gather, If I do not have winter tyres:

I am selfish
I am arrogant.
I put my family in danger
I don't take precautions
I claim to be a driving god
I claim to defy physics.

I'm not sure anyone has said or come close to implying this in this thread?

I wont deny winter tyres are a good option, but for those who decide they aren't affordable or worth the cost, do we really need to be made out as complete *****?

Not sure why you quoted me as I wasn't talking to you, but anyway anyone who replies 'not really' to the question 'So you guys are not interested in the safety of yourselves or your family then?' probably qualifies for at least some of the points on your list.

My comment was based on the multitude of posts we have had on the subject and the widely held opinion of a lot of people is that they can drive perfectly well on all season tyres and those of us who do use winter tyres are poor drivers or gay

You're a smart guy, I am sure you saw the sarcasm. I posted it because its the stupidest thing to say, much like the post it was in reply to (no not yours, you are correct)

I see no mention in this thread about how "those of us who do use winter tyres are poor drivers or gay" Can't help you there.

Nope, well have a good look around via the search function although I am sure you have better things to do. It's the usual situation in here, extreme views develop on both sides of the fence

It's very sensible to use the correct grade of 'rubber' when you are gay.

A **** link can also be quite advantageous as well, if you're into that sort of thing of course.

I am going to be reusing last year's rubbers - I'll be refitting them shortly - does that make me double gay?

I put Conti TS850's under my 335i touring a few weeks back (not run-flats) and they are great with good ride and grip. Difference between these and 19" run flats on dry pavement is only slight in my view. So I'm well-pleased.

I have never been tempted to get winter tyres. Seems an expensive exercise and I have got used to just being a bit more careful for all the years I have been driving on snow and ice.

Youtube is full of people who thought they could be careful generally, you can be careful right up to the point you lose control.

Just ordered (after endless review checking) some Yoko 902A tyres for the BM - they will be fitted tomorrow. If they worked on an auto 335d, they'll work on anything!

Phew - I was hoping I hadn't ordered some obscure tyres…!

Mine are 17" 225/45 all round. I'll stick them on the current alloys; I'm having them refurbed (properly) in Spring anyway. You?

Hey you two, very glad you've joined the common sense brigade, but don't let's have a 'my tyres are bigger than your tyres' session now

You must know me by now - I hate big wheels and tyres (unless genuinely necessary). The smaller the better IMO - as long as they fit over the brake disks.

£130 each fitted for mine. Prices seemed to vary from £80 to £180. The £180 ones were Bridgestones that aren't actually very good. Doh!

I was really after Contis but can't get any in time - they were £155 each.

I've ordered some new wheels as I wanted the same size all round.
Current wheels are 255/35/18 on the rear and 225/40/18 on the front. I've gone for 225/40/18 all round.
I was actually gonna get Toyo snowsprox but due to the deal I got from Motorsport wheels in Leeds I went for the Yokas. £119 per corner fitted + Riva DTM wheels @ £400.

Paid £75 each for mine, but that is for a Volvo V40 so a good bit smaller than the above. Vredestein Wintracs - 195/60 R15
