Quoting fail?

Both the cars I was racing were more powerful than mine, they didn't win though.

TBH my argument, and I suppose yours, is that driven well a WRX obliterates an STI!

I'd love to see a youtube review of both standard cars were they pit them together, speed off the line or 0-60 etc between the too is something that has bothered me for years.

Common figures are 5.2 and 5.7 but is that with conservative driving for the WRX and is the figure bloated/reduced for them both to save STI blushes?

A 1200kg 280bhp classic is quoted at 4.8 but a lardy arsed 265bhp Newage STI is quoted at 5.2 - hmm.

Why would you love to see a YouTube review.....?

Why not listen to the people on here who have experience of the cars.....I've owned all 3 cars you mentioned, Newage WRX, Newage STI and an EVO5.

The STI in stock form was quicker than the WRX and there is no way on this planet your WRX would of got near my EVO and that was only 330bhp so either your mate is telling porkies about the power of his Evo or he drives like Miss Daisey..

A lot of reviews pit similar cars together though usually cars from rival manufacturers.

TBH every time we set off Billy would leave his EVO 5 standing but like I keep saying as soon as I got into 3rd gear the EVO would come creeping up, but around the country roads where he lives there aren't many long straights. Thank god. TBH when Billy was putting out standard power he struggled to leave anything from rolling starts after 40mph. From the lights though it took something special to test him, I left EMB's old car (well the shell, but with new motor) off the line this summer at York, the new owner must have serious power though as he overtook me at around 60 and crossed the line at about 128mph. I have the slip still.

When I got Billy he weighed 1390KG and was 225bhp, he now weighs 1,250kg and puts out 330bhp and to be brutally honest I can't feel much difference in acceleration! The 4x4 keeps the car very planted, with no increase in things like Torque steer or body movement etc. The only thing to gauge I suppose is how fast street lights go past.

1.11.71 is the best time attack lap time for wrx

1.06.57 is for the STI 1.05.84 is for the Spec C

The only point you making on this thread that , yes 5 speed box has better ratios for drag type of exercise , nothing more then that. So stop making a fool out of yourself on here ...

Only 5 seconds difference for a car with 90bhp more and better handling/breaking? and a "5 speed box has better ratios for straight line fun?" ..so basically a UK STI newage with 265bhp (40bhp down on the JDM STI's) would have struggled to beat 1.11.71?

More fool me.

Time and time again WRX's have been proven to be faster than STI's in this thread and that is my last word on the matter!

JDM wrx and sti had smtn like 40 bhp difference if im not mistaken... I cant understand do you really have to be such a tool or you havent got a efing clue ... If 5 secs is not a gap enough on a 1.3 mile track , you are being a fool my friend...

He needs a gap of 30 secs to understand that STI is a more focused car on a 1 minute track

I have to agree partly with Stu and partly with the chap who said theyll always be someone quicker. I had 10.9 second evo and was decimated by a street Mustang bi turbo. All i did was laugh it really taught me that even if youve got 700hp there will always be someone with 800. However, Focus STs when stock are not quick. So id endeavour to add a little punch, plus, try racing him from the lights on a damp day. He'll be a dot in your mirror while your selecting 4th. All on race tracks of course.

Oi, watch it or i'll pop round with my dealer and his pipe and do your mrs up the wrong un again, she loves a toke on the pipe while she's got one in each hole.

As for the WRX STI debate, standard WRX will get proper had by an STI, WRX PPP will be in front off the lights and the STI would make ground rapidly on it at around 80mph, who stays in front after that would depend on the road/track and drivers.

WRX is NOT a Rally Bread race replica, it's a quick comfy daily with 4wd that with a bit of tweeking can put a smile on your face and gives a good account of itself in the traffic light derby, but on track it would be seriously lacking in power, brakes and suspension.

The STI is closer to the rally car, on the road there is not such a huge difference and it's more compromised as a daily driver due to firmer suspension and shorter gear ratios, but get it out on some nice tarmac or a track and you'd have to be a pretty crap driver not to leave a standard WRX wondering where you'd gone, PPP might stand a better chance but the brakes and suspension would still be found wanting.

Mod either and the scenario continues until you basically turn both into the same car at which point you may as well have started with an STI unless you want a 6/700bhp monster then start with any shell you like.

I used have bugeye STi prodrive PPP and was beaten by Standard Corsa VXR(192BHP), before anyone says it the driver, i race part time and until i got too 4th gear the corsa pulled on me,

Thing is the cars now getting old so they lose BHP, Power to weight ratio and all that transmission loss. Modern hatchbacks are getting very quick now.

Id can see alot of older cars ``sports cars`` being beaten easy by alot of hot hatchbacks like ST and VXR ect

My VW Caddy can have anything off up to about 10 mph then it all goes downhill from there. It's all about driver, you boys who are loosing out to Corsas and the like need to learn how to drive. I suggest watching the Fast and the Furious series to show how it's done. Hopefully all your scoobys have 32 speed gearboxes as it appears they do in the film

no i haven't , part of the reason i got rid of mine was due to the idiots that race on public roads giving the owners a bad name and the general chav image.
