Storm Watch - ALERT

Define 'wrong'? Two dead by falling trees, a boy swept out to sea, and most of the south London travel infrastructure paralysed for hundreds of thousands of people due to fallen trees. Power is out in several places, and roofs ripped off buildings.

Its certainly not been the national disaster / entire country going to be hit by bad weather, that it was made out to be.
Definitely affected the southern part of the country more than the North.

It seems that even though half of them now work in Manchester, those writing the news stories still can't quite believe that there is life north of Watford

We lost the double gates and a fence panel down the side of our house. Snapped a 4" x 4" wooden post and a concrete fence post at the base.
No idea what cost replacement gates and posts will be at the moment, reckon it could be an insurance claim.

Pathetic how they always get the news reporter to stand on the seawall wearing their best Bergaus jacket with the waves crashing over them and shouting into the mike.
It's like they are giving the "see we told you so message".
The thing is if they were to stand in the same place in the middle of summer at high tide the result would be exactly the same, what a bunch of muppets

So it seems once again the weather forecasters got it wrong. Still it's funny watching the media clammering for some death and destruction and finding little to none. They love nothing more than a natural disaster bringing misery and sorrow to a nation especially if that nation is Britain. I am constantly surprised they don't have a deaths totaliser on the screen in the old Blue Peter appeal stylee!

I agree with F1 Fan here. The media were hyping up this storm since last Wednesday. It was solid in the newspapers for about 5 days straight. Every single day that breakfast BBC news was on, there would be something about this 'Mighty storm'. Even today front page newspaper there was a huge headline "24 HOUR STORM CAUSES CHAOS". …and the news programs have been showing the 'aftermath' constantly all day trying their best to scour the country for damage.
I'm sorry, but what ******* storm? It literally missed half of the areas that it was supposed to cause destruction. The areas that it did hit, yes it was damaging, but I wouldn't call it 'The worst storm in a decade causes mayhem." The BBC had some dimwit standing next to a church interviewing a postman and the Church warden because a tree had blown over and clipped the Church roof taking a few tiles off with it. The interview went something along the lines like this "So what happened here? What did you see?" The Church warden replies "well I came out into my Garden and saw this great tree which has obviously been blown down due to the storm."
It was all a load of hyped up rubbish In this modern age, I'd at least expect the weather forecasters to make accurate forecasts. They could have easily said on the Saturday that the Storm was going to miss most of the areas and that it's not as powerful as they expected it to be.

Oh take your sanctimonious little head out of your **** for once. Cry your crocodile tears of such desperate concern for 4 people (none of whom you probably knew) who died just as hundreds of others do every year ... as a result of accidents!
My points stand... this was no 1987 'hurricane' like the forecasters and the media hoped and the media have spent the day revelling in what little death and destruction they could find!
If you don't agree with that then that's up to you, I couldn't care less!
Oh and one more thing... I am not and never will be your 'mate'!

Jeez, can we not even talk about the weather on here without resorting to insults?
Granted, the media may have hyped this up, but I was under the impression in terms of the met office, their prediction was vague any way. The last I paid attention to, was, that the storm may hit us (mainly the south) or it could track past. As it turns out, some were hit by bad weather which clearly has caused some level of destruction and loss of life. I personally wouldn't say they were wrong, as they didn't give a definite prediction, presumably because they couldn't be sure how it was going to travel. At the end of the day, they only gave out warnings as a worst case, so people could be prepared. I'm sure we'd all be complaining if we had been hit by a really bad storm, but they'd just said it probably wouldn't effect us....
Not specifically on here, but I'm quite shocked that some people seem almost disappointed that it wasn't nearly as bad as it possibly could have been.

From what I saw they specifically said it would not be like 1987, however would be severe. Around our way a loads fences down and several roads closed by fallen tress. Some power cuts.
IMO that means it was the most severe we've had for some years and the effects were wide spread. Seems they predicted this quite well.

To be fair it was the worst I have seen round this way since '87. Trees down all over the place in leafy Surrey and it's still a bit treacherous out there due to tree limbs sticking out into main carriageways etc. the kind that could blast straight through your windscreen if you don't spot them in time

That's nothing. Matteeboy could surf that with his eyes closed whilst fighting a dragon and doing a rubiks cube. Then he'd run straight out of the water and set a world record time for a triathlon. Then he'd be picked up by helicopter because the SAS would need him for another urgent mission.
