My mate andy has got a sunny , his wastegate pipe came off and i could not touch the car, in fact i was quite sick about it until we found the 'fault'
Now he is running about 13psi (not sure about std boost) and my car is running 253/244 atf and the tables have turned!!
The only problem is that he is hoping to run the car with high boost again (safely ) and it is feckin quick man....
Saying that though his car does not handle very well and the overall body/build quality doesnt seem to be very good, i am not tryin to start another sunny versus scoob flame war, just pointing out the facts that me and my mate are quite honest about. His clutch pedal housing has broken, the clips on his back bumper have broken on there own and his passenger window motor has packed up(my94 gtir).
My car wont touch his with the boost up (would like to add that it was so high i couldnt read it on my 2bar boost guage ) and his car cant keep up round the bends, both our cars are in standard form at the moment apart from an exhaust on mine and induction on his.....
we are both of to north weald this month to test each other on the drag strip...

Over 2 Bar of boost,he's lucky it didn't blow up!I know the pipe you mean,it also connects to the i/c to make the engine bay"tidier"and when people who don't know about it remove the i/c to change the plugs and replace it without reconnecting the vacuum pipes.....bye bye engine.
Bruiser, will the standard car pull to full revs in top and what does it do in each gear?Always wanted to go in a type R as I love the idea of low ratios.
This thread did start as WRX versus GTiR though and I bet there's a similar difference in performance pitting your car against one of those.
Obviously if you go mental with an engine and have money to burn, anything is achievable,I saw an SR20DET engine in Banzai about 6months ago with 700bhp.And a life of probably 700 minutes

SM, very lucky!! but **** it was fast lol
It was exactly that pipe, the metal one on the intercooler underside.... the thing is that he thinks the car is slow as.... now , shame he cant run that power, he might be able to keep up

Skiddus- As I said, the car is good for 170 in fourth, and without a 260 kph speedo, I'd say that top in fifth at redline would be about 230-240 kph....It will rev to 8000 or more in every gear if you want it too, but better to change earlier as theres so much torque, no point ringing it out....

Cool

i raced one of those little shopping cars the other day....had him easily on the roundabout, then he went past as i pulled off to go to the shops, about an hour later i got back onto the same road to find the previously mentioned GTiR sat on the side of the road, bonnet up with an AA van with him! Ha Ha,
Anyway they may be quick but they look like they have had an accident with a Halfords reject parts bin!

Shopping cars?I can only get about 4 carrier bags in the boot it's that smallAs for the AA man,he was probably just having a nose to see what they actually look like under the bonnet as they're SO reliable.

I cant understand where people get the idea that pulsars are so unreliable, Ive owned two (not at the same time) since sept 99 and have had no major problems at all, and the only minor problem is a intermittant window control that I have at the moment, both cars have also been modified (1 bar boost, exhaust, filter, etc).

There have been a few horror stories from pulsar owners, but then it tends to be from previous owners neglect or over enthusiastic tuning (mods made without the car being correctly setup after), and neither of these problems are specific to the pulsar !!

My friends got a GTI-r running 1 bar boost and a mongoose exhaust as the only mod. In my STI V2 with a scoobysport exaust, a HKS filter, 1 bar and on 18's and i can absoluely destroy it. C'mon they look awful and when he gives me a ride in it no body looks at it after all it is a SUNNY!!! The Scooby is the head turner not cars that look like a bag of S***E with a nice bonnet vent hanging off them. P.S who the hell designed the back of the car, some little Jap man should be shot for that.

The age of the Sunny is the main cause for problems...you must remember its getting to be a pretty old car now....
Our Govt. just passed laws to prohibit the importing of any Jap import older than 1995, so no more GTiR's or early EVO's or early Rex's for that matter....
Reason behind it is claimed to be safety, but real reason is that the "boy racer" element is getting way to big, so they are gonna cut off their source as most can't afford to buy the newer cars....

The only way to sort this is on a trackday-when my gearbox is sorted
