Lesson number 2 today was brake disc cleaning and it went well, I expected to have to replace discs and pads all round but the discs have cleaned up a treat and the back pads are nearly new, so just a new set of good quality front pads it is
I couldn't get into the car to check the ECU so will have to do that later this week.
Just thought I would put up a quick pic of the car up, looking rather sorry for herself with no wheels! I gave her a quick polish over the weekend, needs doing several times as it doesn't look like it has seen a good wash in years.

She prob needs a damn good MOP.
I don't think the solid colours on the Classic were lacquered.
White oxidises like red does. I know, as my white STi 5 suffers it. So I get the paint professionally detailed in Autumn, each year...

TBF that was a bad pic, this shows it in a better light, surprised how well the paint came up with just one quick polish to be fair.

- Even better get it polished using a DA.

If you learn Chech then you will have no problem with Polish, same group(Slavic). Those two languages are very similar to each other. I used to work in Skoda factory in Mlada Boleslav and to me their language is like a funnier version of Polish :-)
Very friendly and happy people Chechs are.

Not sure when exactly (probably in the summer) I'll be going to see my parents but if you'll need something from UK like not too big part for your car, I could take it to Vienna with me and then you could pick it up. You'll finally have a good reason to visit that beautiful place and save some money on courier :-)

I also have a number of Polish friends who live in the UK, I can understand some words when they speak, as you say the languages are very similar.

- I really need to change the pic - that was when it was std, when I first acquired her.

Unfortunately you don't win the prize, found it on the passenger side so it must have been moved!
Code on it is 6S, so just to confirm that this can't be re-mapped, so I definitely need a ESL ECU or similar?
Pic below if that makes any difference...

See here:-

So, that ECU is allegedy for a v.3 (MY1997 = Sep 96-Aug 97) STi i.e. OEM map on it is tailored for STi v.3/4 silver topmount, yellow 440 injectors and VF23 turbo.
As it happens, ESL (Enduring Solutions) are indeed the people that make/retail the MY97/98 ECU motherboard, so you can remap. I think Simon @ JGM (Jolly Green Monster), AFP (Andy Forrest Performance) and Duncan @ racedynamics are mappers that can supply/sell you the hardware.

Apexi Power FC is another decent (if dated) alternative. These are now likely to be rare-as these days, so prices prob sky high(?)
The other main contender, therefore, would be Alcatek.
All 3 choices can be had from the aforementioned JGM.

Even if I did decide not to have the car re-mapped, the current ECU/map is wrong for the engine so I don't have much choice now
Car should be back on the road next week and I will have to make a decision, it's getting to the point now though where it may not be worth investing the money and easier just to sell it on

Of course, you could always get a second hand OEM ECU, correct for a MY97/98 GT/Turbo 2000 spec engine. That way, its innate map will be correct for your motor's OEM hardware, as it stands. Just plug and play.
Should be able to pick one up for 15-40 quid or so. Plus courier costs if sourced from the UK.
...But would you be happy with 'just' c.208 bhp..............!

Good thinking joz, not just a nice pair of ****
It would be a shame, especially as I've become rather attached to her and already put lots of hours into getting her cleaned up. Best thing to do is get her on the road next week and not rush into any decisions, cars are very expensive over here so it would be very difficult to get another turbo anywhere near this price. If I could just get away with buying an original ECU for around £50 - £100 that may be the best option.

Shouldn't cost that much - see my previous post.
And you might get your money back on the sale of the 6S... As JDM MY97/98 ones are desirable (280PS) - for the early car owners that are prepared to do a bit of ECU loom rewiring etc.

Ah I see, so theoretically with this ECU fitted the car is probably running more power than standard, obviously with it being set up for an STI?

Thing is, your current 6S's map may cause the fueling and ignition to be way out, as you only have 380 inj./TD04L turbo. (An STi v.3 has 440s and a larger VF23 or VF24 turbo, plus higher boost target)..
You could get a diagnostic run on a dyno by someone that knows what they're looking at, to check the logs for ign., fueling and boost. You could combine it with power runs and bhp printouts. If it was to be okay (no detonation), and ending up with more power than 208bhp, then you're laughing...

...Can you not check to see what colour your injectors are, and also what turbo you've got.
When they're known for sure, it gives a better idea of the best value-for-money - or indeed cheapest - paths you could go down...
