Seems to be a bit of an 'issue' after all then, even allowing for media spin that's a lot of people in trouble!

You mainly watch during the day time?
If so, you also get such classics as
- How to fall over and sue somebody
- How to avoid paying your debts
- How to claim PPI insurance
- Lottery (covered by gambling TBF)
- How to earn money by getting a job (sorry, just put that one in for a laugh)

Yeah. It would be funny if it weren't so tragic.

To quote that American commentator who remarked of the UK's future, during the 78/79 winter of discontent: "Goodbye Britain, it was nice knowing you."

Sage words indeed.

That is when I first visited this country - it was going down the tube then and it has been ever since.
"Go figure" as the Americans would say.

The 'irony' being that back then it was a failed socialist state... And now it's a rapidly failing capitalist one!

Seriously, if you think Britain is doing badly, you should take a look at the parts of Europe where they've gone in the deliberately opposite direction to the so-called spending cuts we've had here.

For sure.

But I don't live there; I live here.

Other countries' own bad fortunes doesn't make me feel any better about 'my' own's current economic and social failings.

Funnily enough, there's a doco on BBC2 now, about the cold war days.

The episode is contrasting Britain's emerging, brave new capitalist world of the 80s to that of the communist, the then, Soviet Union.

Well I would recommend that you do. It is rather insightful.
I once had a look on a day off and it really was an eye-opener.
I find it interesting to see what sort of ads are on for certain types of programmes and times of day.
It is a bit like going to different places and seeing signs about what is prohibited (ie practiced) there.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/...?commentpage=1

Carney has announced that funding-for-lending will stop targeting mortgages from Jan (instead will target business loans), and that tougher affordability test will be introduced from April.

Pretty sensible move.

Helping businesses survive should be no 1 priority, as long as the employees also benefit.

The tougher affordability test is old news, it was scheduled ages ago.
