WRX vs STI
#61
It's 9/10 in response to some WRX bhp numpty claiming his car is comparable because he has managed to get 262 bhp and the STi is only 261 Conveniently ignoring all the other entities which make an STi what it is Then you get the whole gearing, weight, comfort, everyday snoozefest to hide the glaring fact that they really want an STi
WRX is a great car, their owners just need to lose the short bloke syndrome and enjoy it I believe the same afflicts the Porsche Boxster owners club

TBH the Newage WRX is ******* awful in standard form, pig ugly, fadey brakes and you have to work very hard to keep up with similar spec cars.
But £1000 of ebay magic and a few items removed it can embarrass most cars at the lights.
I have my WRX where I want it now but I'd love the Brembos. They are just a tad too expensive on ebay still.
When I bought the WRX 5 years ago I thought the only difference between the models was winglets and a slight power increase! I really was motivated by looks and sounds at the time and bought the WRX because it had the bigger spoiler and big bore enabled burble sound!
Ask any pedestrian at random what the differences are and none may know.

Even if I was going to mod everything I would still buy an Sti.
At least you generate a return on parts, all wrx parts will do is sit there and rot, there will always be arguments both sides plain and simple.

I'm pretty sure that my WRX PPP has alloy wishbones and inverted dampers..
I could've got an STI if I wanted, but bought my WRX and used the spare cash to buy a 2nd car for my commute to work.
I'm more than happy with my WRX, but then I'm not really a 'modder' as I've other things that I'd rather spend my cash on. The WRX is quicker than most cars in the real world, granted there'll be some things that beat you, but that's the same as with any STI too.
I just wanted to buy something, jump in it and drive and my car does the job.
To the OP, if you wanna tune your car up then buy an STI if not, then save yourself £1500-£2000 and buy a WRX.

I think on average you'll find there is a £4/5k difference, when I bought my 04 WRX saloon New from Motorpoint in Derby it was £16,500, the STI I tried there was £22k, after about 6 months I spent £1500 at TSL and got around 280bhp and nothing ever passed me in 2yrs of ownership, it would also go off the clock and still pulling and was quite a bit quicker than my current WRX PPP.
I'm a bit of a rarity on here because I have two subaru's one is the WRX Wagon PPP and the other is an STI Type R, so just to quantify my responses, I DON'T suffer STI envy and not owning a new age STI has absolutely nothing to do with finances.
I have driven more cars than I can remember over my 30yr driving career had company cars since the age of 20 and worked around the motor trade from the lowest of the low to the very top all be it 7yrs since I quit the rat race, Bang for Buck the Subaru Impreza is impossible to beat in ALL it's guises, WHICH IS THE BEST? who knows it's a question that is asked over and over again, when I was doing my research I came across an article from the main man at Subaru (can't remember his name) HIS opinion was that the V3 Type R was the best one ever made, so I bought one and I can't say that I disagree.
Peace i'm out.

Only read a few posts on this thread, and Im pretty sure that some WRX owners on here think that STi owners have only had a STi because they snubbed the WRX.
Ive owned both WRX and STi in pretty much most of the subaru shapes(owned 8 Impreza's), and from experience, No way in hell would a WRX PPP be faster then a standard STi and thats from expeirience in owning both cars and not what ive heard/read!!
Also read in this thread that the WRX has longer gears etc, and lighter and the turbo spools up quicker??? So a TD04 is a better turbo then a VF35 because it spools up quicker(what about when it goes over 3500 rpm)??
Think ive heard it all now!!

My god is this not resolved yet!
It's clear the STI is the better car out of the box, those that disagree clearly haven't a clue, or as said before had good reasons to buy a tamed version, whether it's cost, insurance, or use.
I think this debate is relevant throughout all Marques.
Audi S4 v RS4?
BMW 330 v M3?
Porsche 911 v GT3
Evo 8 v MR
Does it continue? I don't know I've only ever had other cars, such as RS Turbos when my mates had XR3i's, again more inferior to my cars LOL
I think everyone should agree to disagree and move on!

I am on my second WRX at 22 years old, and for what I need in a daily driver it's perfect , mapped and modded to 276bhp and on bc coilovers and uprated brakes. I could afford an STi no problem and I agree it's a totally different car I just made the choice that suited my situation better. I have a lot of STi parts on my car, which sums it up really, you wouldn't buy an STi and change to WRX parts haha.

I'm sorry but you have twisted the myth to suit yourself and the model you own...The myth goes that some fella from Subaru mentioned that V3 STI(not just the type r)is the best Subaru made because it was the first car they were allowed to do what they wanted to, where as before they just took WRX's from the production line and tweaked the a little.
Its a myth and only that because everyone knows is complete nonsense!

If I ever pull up next to a WRX, you know what my thoughts are?......
"You only have a WRX because you couldn't afford an STI".
Its like any model of car. If you buy an Sri, its because you couldn't afford a VXR. If you buy an ST, its because you couldn't stretch to the RS etc.

scoobynet....home of the snobbs...pmsl
to me the WRX is a good entry level to scooby ownership and with the right tweaks puts you in the game...its all about the driver
but the STI is the better base car...fact. but i cant afford a TYPE R or RA which are the only STIs id want...

Even my 57 year old dad has a standard-ish(exhaust system) WRX wagon, I lent it a few months ago as I needed the wagon to put some stuff in the back, I come across a Focus ST on the way back from the tip, and guess what the ST firmly put me in my place!!!

If the wagon had PPP and AP brakes that wouldn't of happend....
