Agreed, but for now what we CAN confirm is that the HG is intact - so happy days.

I asked the same question.

My own theory was that the HG had gone, pressurised the coolant system and pop - radiator had given way. Andy rightly pointed out that the caps are designed to give way before that would ever happen, but also the various rubber/silicone hoses would have popped off long before a radiator split itself.

There was no evidence of road/debris damage, so we have to put it down to a faulty radiator in the first place. I'll have a good chat with them tomorrow when I collect the car, and like I said I'll be watching the coolant temperatures like a hawk (no pun intended ) for some months to come.

How old was the rad, Fonzey? Mine went all flakey at about 12 years old, if you TOUCHED it, bits flaked off and eventually it holed too.
