You would be looking at the bottom end of the gaming market for the likes of IOS games on tv's, same with android, they will never be able to compete with the top games or game machines, PC's are gearing up for 4k, consoles are just at 1080p, phones and other devices are just about touching that but still have a very limited scope, it doesnt mean there isnt a market but it wont be competetive to something like Space Citizen (when its out), Rome Total War II or the likes.

Google Chrome has blocked access to kylerichter.com for now.
Am I to assume you made a thread about an Apple console and there is no Apple Console? That it is merely playing games on an Ipad through apple TV?
If so what a lame cop-out.

Having just left the industry after almost 20 years, seeing the launch of the PS1, PS2, PS3 blah blah
Gaming has evolved from spotty little geeks writing code and playing in dark rooms to main stream. It didn't happen over night, and it wont change again over night.
Multiplayer gaming is now a massive % of the gaming market and revenue, that's why we see the same Game every year now ( CoD, Fifa, Pro, Battlefield ) and yet people still buy them. Its the social element they bring, helped by facebook.
In terms of AAA titles, game content is this 70% multiplayer, 30% Single play experience.
The big hitters for the truly hard-core are still PC's due to the player count. Battlefield has modded serves that offer 128 players vs. Consoles, until the release of the Xboxone and PS4 couldn't offer anything close to that.
Then there's MMOs...
Its the arrogance of the Apple brand that they believe they can make something to compete at the top level right away, and win. Yes its now a very well established brand, and yes the phones are a good platform, but have you seen the worldwide launch numbers for both Xboxone and PS4? Consumers are very brand loyal, trying to get them to ditch a established gaming brand for a new one? Wont happen.
The hard-core gamers will buy into it, and probably buy it, as its shown that they own multiple formats, but if its a choice for someone upgrading at a late stage, they buy what all their friends have, again back to the social element.
There's 4 types of consumers in the gaming market, hard-core, casual, gifters and Parents.
Hard-core I've already covered above
Casual, buy what their best mate has
Gifters, normaly enter a retailer without a clue, then as part of the sales patter, the sales person is tasked to asked who they are buying for, and what do their friends have.
Parents, buy what their kids ask them, if johny next door has a new xbox...
You see where this goes?
It takes years to establish a gaming brand, you cant just swoop in, throw some money about and be top dog.
As said above, games on mobiles don't compare to dedicated mobile gaming platforms. Nintendo has, and have had this covered for years now. Sony, keep giving them a good run for their money, but again this shows that a far more powerful machine/brand cant compete with a already established one. The Vita flopped on its **** when it was released, although its a great bit of kit, and can be used on a TV...
There was a rumour 3 years ago that Microsoft where developing a handheld, even then everyone said why? you wont be able to compete. This just turned out to be a OS rather than an actual system.
And then there's how shops are merchandised. A large amount of revenue that's put into Games retail outlets ( well just Game now ) comes from the 3 main brands. Window posters, Isle ends and footage within stores are paid for. And charts, but lets not go into that! Apple yes, could afford to have a massive marketing budget and pay for it to be the focal point in every store and plastered all over the windows and the biggest question asked by the people inside the industry will be Why?
Why you ask? Well, if your a third party and you don't directly work for apple, they are a complete **** to work for. You remember when Game and Gamestation ( RIP ) sold brand new I Products? It was the worst thing they ever did, the after sales was a ****ing joke! For example customer buys new ipod, it brakes. Normal procedure is return it to the original store, or brand with receipt, its changed, no hassle. What did apple do? Every unit that was sold, at the time of purchase, the poor sales person, after spending time explain F and B's, then had to say if it goes wrong, you have to take it to a apple store! 80% then at the till point changed their minds.
Then, there was the sealed units, that where purchased directly from apple that where already registered as used with apple!
This may read like a apple bashing, its not. They are very good at what they do currently, but that's it. They have a long way to go with the behind the scenes part. Lets not even mention what they where charged with last year, and their human rights record.
So in summery -
Will apple swoop in and take over? No
Will a apple based machine sell? Yes, but not to the market they want or they expect.
Will the current established brands die off? Don't even need to answer that, go to your local Game and try and buy one today....
I could waffle on for ages, I was paid well for my skills in the industry, but I saw the ugly side of greed. I was inside a London store when the riots kicked off, the staff were understandably scared, and wouldn't you be when there 100's of people outside smashing the windows for no actual reason? Yes, they wanted 360's and PS3s. Both these brands have become so big, they people given the chance will happily just steal them to have one. The store in Woolwich had to close, there was nothing left to sell, the CCTV footage of the "mob" inside the store was unreal. Brand Power.

Umm, have you been in a dark room for the last six years?
Apple are killing Nintendo and Sony on Handhelds and Google are catching up.

Please could you explain what this graph actually represents. It's pretty meaningless, what does "indexed consumer spending on games" represent? I can see "indexed spend" being compared to hand held gaming devices, nothing to do with the console market or how it shows iOS devices translates to it being adopted as a living room device.

Or, for every 50 somethings spent on handheld games the other had 100 somethings. That's twice as much.
I don't know how much clearer that can be in response to this statement.
"As said above, games on mobiles don't compare to dedicated mobile gaming platforms. Nintendo has, and have had this covered for years now. Sony, keep giving them a good run for their money, but again this shows that a far more powerful machine/brand cant compete with a already established one."

You really don't understand what you're reading. Do you honestly believe that Nintendo and Sony are doing better than iOS and Android when it comes to mobile gaming?

You started this thread with the notion that Apple could replace over traditional games consoles, you've posted nothing to support this. A higher indexed spend for iOS devices compared to other handheld gaming devices doesn't support your point of view. Gaming on iOS devices to the big screen via Airplay and Apple TV is a non starter. Apple have sold only 13million AppleTV devices since it was first launched years ago and is not set to increase significantly in the future, compare that with million XBox Ones sold in less than 24 hours and the same for the PS4.

Have you ever been or in the gaming industry? What does Q1 and Q2 represent? Nothing! Its the lull in the gaming industry, no sane publisher in the right mind releases anything post xmas, or in the beginning of the year. 70% of the entire sales for the industry is made in Q4, and Q4 alone. That's why you see Cod, Fifa, Pro, NFS, AssCreed....
Most of the sales graph data is also based on digital sales, hence my comment on where does the disc/cartridge go.
Digital sales are increasing year on year with some pretty decent figures, you cant deny that, but the over all figures are skewed by two factors.
1. It wasn't tracked properly at a retail level until 2 years ago, when everyone embraces new POS systems.
2. The units which your banging on about only have the facility for digital downloads. Where as PSP, Vita and the DS range still sell physical units, which absolutely batter digital sales still
I admire your brand loyalty, but a blinkered approach leads to nothing, you need to take on board what other people are posting. I take it you work for apple or would like too?

Point two I dispute strongly. Candy crush probably generated more revenue than all PSP games combined.
This isn't an Apple vs thread. Google have just as good of a chance.

You need to go back and read the original article. Take into account the progression in mobile tech, all those big numbers you and your ilk bang on about, then look at how Apple and others are bringing that power to the big screen. You keep drifting this thread hoping to in some way prove me wrong, when there's nothing to prove.
