you all do realise that when cars were first invented they were all rwd up until the fist mini which was fwd...?
then came the addition of making cars 4wd.

i dont really see why id be a stupid **** for making a 4wd car rwd as everyone know 4wd transmissions are weak and 2wd are much stronger.

ok, maybe not everyone knows this...

Not to mention dangerous for other road users. Numptys driving round in reasonably powerful cars on budget 'hard as rock' chinese tyres are more dangerous than an afgan with a rocket launcher.

First thing I did was change mine the day I bought both Scoobys, the blob was on Yokos anyway, but the Type R on Fullruns, they were so dangerous I nearly ended up in the sea a few times after picking the car up from dodgy-as-hell Scoobybits

BSA were the first to make a commercial FWD 'car' but the Citroen traction Avant from 1934 is widely accepted as the first proper FWD car, just so as you know

PS I have a RWD AMG, so I have a Volvo for winter

err, winter tyres for the snow?

i bet 99% of subaru owners are still on summer tyres and have never actually tried a winter tyre in their life?

i also have snow chains, but for 2 weeks a year - big deal!

but that is beside the point of scoobynet users that think their reasonably quick family car is a high performance super car - of course there are exception to that, as some people on here do have some very nice cars.

but surely that is beside the point of me asking about how to rwd an impreza, but hey. you keep your blinkers on son!

oh while this thread has some good attention, does anyone know where i can find the specs/drawings of the TY745 gearbox gear please?
as i have found somewhere that cuts gears, and need some drawings for a price.

tbh tho i cant imagine any of you lot will, as you all pay for someone to fit a box for you, not have a go at rebuilding it yourselves....

Dont need to, my tyres perform great in the snow on my Subaru. Probably as I dont use cheap budget tyres and drive sensibly in our few weeks of snow fall.

Youll need them as you use cheap tyres, try not to kill anyone

I dont think people think that all. May I point you in the direction of Subaru Swap Shop on Facebook, I think there are some like minded individuals like yourself who you can talk to about ruining all the millions spent on research and Development Subaru did when developing an amazing 4wd system

Why does this moron come on here, tell us how it is, and then go on and ask questions?

Personally, I find it pathetic.

If you do manage to convert the car to rear wheel drive (which is worth neither the expense or hassle) all you'll do is chew up your rear tyres. The car will not drive like a car should. The Impreza turbo chassis is set up to be a four wheel drive chassis not rear. Performing this conversion is an exercise in futility. Someone I know found this out the hard way.

if you want some extra performance perhaps now is the time to keep the 4wd but stick a close ratio box/matching diff in.

Sounds like a RWD Impreza isn't a great car so probably not worth it in the long run, even if it was the cheaper option you'll end up spending a lot more to get it to drive nice.

Your gearbox is weak as you bought the poverty spec version.

I suppose seeing as you are going to "rebuild" it yourself you have the tools to do so? Gear pullers etc and the knowledge to get it stripped and then put it all back together?

Or as I suspect are you just talking about taking it somewhere who cuts gears and having them rebuild the box for you?

I do all my own work would have the box out in an hour or so but would I **** attempt to rebuild it myself, false economy in my opinion.

As above a rwd conversion won't be worth the hassle, buy a type R if you want a more rwd biased impreza experience.

I was running Pilot Primacy on my WRX, I then bought an alloy/tyre package and they came with Suntek tyres! I was a bit dubious but they cope 20 times better than the Michelins.

Pay up now, as you'll be wrong.

You either bought/borrowed/stole them, who's the mug?

I think mine is neither, I appreciate it for what it is.

Probably a typo, it's a TY754 gearbox.

I would pay, and have done. I don't like the idea of wrestling 60KG of gearbox out from under a car whilst it's on axel stands on a hill.

yes I have all the kit either here or at work, but not specialist tools etc.

I do mean have someone cut the gears and I rebuild it, unless they to that as well, I have not asked.

ok, best opting is to just stick another 4wd box in the car, now considering a PPG kit, but not sure I could live with a straight cut 1st-4th on a daily basis!

its also a hell of a lot more than I want to spend, so still weighing things up and wont make a decision till after my box is out and I have stripped it.

its amazing how on this forum tho, you ask a simple question and get shot down in flames lol.

so, no one knows the specs of the gears then? as expected lol

enough to rebuild a gearbox, yes.

when I first joined Scoobynet I was given a link to some very useful info on rebuilding a gearbox, so I can probably make the tools required

Get a second hand box and get some proper tyres instead of wasting money on a PPG for a standard road car.

plan is to make it sub 400bhp at some point too, so if the std box cant take 240bhp its a waste of time imo

6 speed sti.
Messing with wrx box on comedy tyres is an idiot solution.
And you will need to rebuild the engine to get 400bhp but im sure you can make the tools for that via a link someone sent you no doubt....
