Now I know that you think this is a brilliant idea, but these jokers can't even support a few old folk trapped in a flood with no hot food or heating on Christmas day.
I realise that everyone deserves time off on Christmas day but many people have been working over the holiday period and even I have done that in the past. There is even a thread on here somewhere discussing the subject.
But you seem to think that council workers are exempt from working over the holiday and providing support to their own people in their own locality at a time of distress over the Christmas period.
If we can't or are incapable of looking after our own why the **** are these idiots pledging our money in overseas aid when the Governments of these countries in question have no desire to help and support there own citizens?

You were the one who mentioned space programs, if that's not a dig at her race and ancestry then what is it?
As for the cheap shot comment why not at least have the courage of your convictions instead of trying to hide behind some facade that we can all see through anyway!

Firstly congratulations on working over Christmas, aren't you clever. Tell you what, have a cookie. Now we've gotten over that fact, no council workers shouldn't be exempt from working over Christmas. They should however be able to take there allotted holidays without people whining about it, I'm sure you understand people have commitments. It's entirely possible that a lot of council workers are caught up in the floods themselves.
As for overseas aid, maybe Cameron et al pledging money on our behalfs isn't a particularly bad idea. Given some of the attitudes expressed in this thread it's the only help third world countries are going to get.
Oh and by the by, we're perfectly capable of supporting ourselves. The response may not be as fast as it could be (things take time when you don't have the proper infrastructure) but it gets there in the end.
