For example, it's been reported in the media this weekend that Cameron, Milliband and Clegg have valiantly got together to pledge billions of pounds in overseas aid paid for by you and I.
Now I know that you think this is a brilliant idea, but these jokers can't even support a few old folk trapped in a flood with no hot food or heating on Christmas day.
I realise that everyone deserves time off on Christmas day but many people have been working over the holiday period and even I have done that in the past. There is even a thread on here somewhere discussing the subject.
But you seem to think that council workers are exempt from working over the holiday and providing support to their own people in their own locality at a time of distress over the Christmas period.
If we can't or are incapable of looking after our own why the **** are these idiots pledging our money in overseas aid when the Governments of these countries in question have no desire to help and support there own citizens?

The problem is people like you will always find a reason why we shouldn't help others, especially when they have a different skin colour.
We can see an excellent example of it in your post above.
Because Cameron didn't mobilise the SAS when a few of our citizens were without leccy we should allow millions to die from famine and disease. Seriously??? For the sake of less than 1% of our GDP??
You try and dress your bigotry up by saying you are concerned 'about looking after our own'. Typical narrow minded bigoted clap trap.
And what is 'our own' anyway? I'm not sure you are 'my own' and so perhaps I'd rather see my tax money going to save some poor sod abroad than keeping you warm in your old age.

I don't understand your charitable sentiment towards poverty overseas but your contempt of the poor in the UK.

A kind of racism perhaps - the poor third world people with brown skin who are helpless children free of blame who we must help due to white mans burden, but the British poor have a moral failing and are to blame for their own poverty.

It was me that mentioned space

That's what I'm on about. If we stopped that nonsense.
In every country there are genuine people who need help. Half the time it never gets there.
You must see there's a huge problem when the whole world gives aid to Africa and it gets no better.

Thanks for the psychoanalysis, but as usual you are wrong. However I'm not going to waste the last day of 2013 setting you straight.
Interesting you mention racism. Now this is what I call racism.

But according to some of the posters in this thread we should keep throwing money into these bottomless pit charities.

[QUOTE=urban;11309888]No way man.
Huge salaries at management level.
Large salaries at senior staff levels, and the biggest bunch of incompetent people into the bargain - they make public sector works look good![/QUOTE
And what is your evidence for this? Yeah there are some charities which rip people off but in the main charity workers work extremely hard and often go deep into overseas war torn areas that most of us, including myself, would be scared of.
Take look at the work that Medecins sans Frontieres undertake for example as well as the expenditure breakdown for Unicef which I posted before.

However, I've seen the evidence with my own two eyes.
The main 'charity workers' may well work extremely hard, but when you have incompetent backroom staff squandering it, then it kind of defeats the purpose a bit.

How much is spent on administration?
2.1% of all donations to UNICEF is spent on administration.
That's not going to pay for many "incompetent backroom staff".

I have a friend who works for one of the big recognised charities in the uk,based in Wakefield.
She is on £32,000 as year as fundraising executive! She goes to various premises and asks if they will permit collection boxes..

Quite a good wage for what realistically is nothing more than a well dressed beggar.

Just to get you all going, here's the Daily Mail's latest "Aid They Don't Deserve article".

Just had a quick look.
UNICEF UK for every pound donated 76p goes directly to the children. App in 2011 they committed 95 million to children welfare. So let's do some maths.
So from the pound they retain 25% so when they give 95 million they have taken 119 million in donations.
Now tell me if my maths are off but that's 24 million not given to charity or am kissing something and being really stupid.
They say 2% goes to admin which is roughly 1.5mil and the rest goes to fund raising.
My guess would be the companies used to do the fund raising are owned or part of people to do with said charity.
