Some people do seem to do adventure things around this time of the year. I reckon the flatness of the period known as "Christmas is finished, now what" encourages people to go on a sweaty one.

John Bishop on Ross show said that he used to take his kids for long "walking the dogs" expeditions on Boxing Day and I think a day before or after NYE when they were young (kids not dogs). Now as his kids are older, he finds himself doing those dog walks on his tod. I can relate to that, although I have cats that aren't interested in walking etc.

I usually find myself clearing out and doing trips to recycling banks etc. during this after-Christmas/NY period.

Or should I say it's never been closed when I've been, and I've been pretty much every month of the year, also it's not gated as the entrance is a bus turning circle too.

I went with a very experienced climber who didn't seem worried either. We did a "step" that properly sh4t me up but then I'm as experienced as a five year old. Only a large amount of fitness helped.

Mind you, I should think surfing double to triple overhead waves aloud worry many a climber too ;-)

Was the "step" the last part over the 3rd pinnacle?

I think so; on the "other side" of the horse shoe. Involved a big, sheer drop and some vaguely "proper" climbing. My pulse went through the roof!

That sounds like Y Llewedd, not as high as Crib but feels it when you're on it lol.

I think it's the top of the vertical shadow furthest right on the ridge. Ignore the balding old git in the foreground….

This is how I scare myself but with a little more knowledge of what the hell I am doing...

Would love to climb properly - I'm the right build for it (more or less) and pretty fit but at 38, I've left it a bit late.

As Scoobynoob said Mattee, you are never too old to take new things up
Over the last few years ive taken more interest in photography, re taken up hiking (having also done some courses for inclimate weather conditions, relocation etc), and currently pushing to become an adult instructor in the ACF.
Oh and im 45

Hmm - might have a crack. Done some very basic stuff with the pretend Army (OTC) and in RM selection but that's about it.

If you're around Snowdonia when the weather picks up in the new year, I don't mind doing a route buddy.

Maybe the Bochlwyd Horseshoe - Tryfan/Bristly Ridge/Glyders/Devils Kitchen

I thought my climb of Scafell Pike last month was impressive but you guys are on another level.

Fair play to you all though. I hope one day i'm at a stage where i'm physically capable of such feats.

Very kind! It's a fair old trek from here (Cornwall) but you never know. Likewise if you ever wanted a surf lesson (you may already be able to surf though?!) or see some secret spots down here, I can oblige.

Is he back yet? If yes, I bet he has gone straight to bed. Must have been exhausted, man!

Sorry, I missed that.

Good to know it was awesome. Now rest well, and wait for 2014 to barge into our lives. Easy.

It started very calm, had me taking layers off for the first 2 miles. As we hit the split for Crib the wind hit, very strong and pretty cold, geared up again and moved forward.
The fog came down, but not badly enough for us to lose direction, we strayed from the path a couple of times, but nothing too bad.

The top was frozen snow, icy winds and thick fog, literally couldn't see where we were going. Stopped in the shelter of the building, but it was too cold to stay long. Took a lot longer to get up there too than I expected with the wind and the guys new to climbing/walking.

Bit slippy on the way back down, rain hit us hard, but water proofs stood their ground, the wind and rain made it impossible to take any layers of, so the smell of 4 blokes back in the car was a bit iffy

All in all, it was a great walk, I will be going it again and I would certainly recommend a night work to anyone interested. Crib is my next night one, but the 70mph winds make it a no go this time of year.

Easier too, I don't want easy ..

A lot of the "difficulty" in walking or climbing at night is a persons perception of being in darkness, once you get out there, it's really not that bad. Takes more effort to complete, but it's the same Mountain at night as the in the day
