Having fun? There is having a laugh and being down right rude. What did Chris do or say to you that has got you all 'monthly'? I know he can be opinionated sometimes (as are you clearly) but what has he done wrong on this thread?

Obviously the car needs to go to the supplying dealer for the repair, why does this even need a thread asking about it? It's basic stuff in the extreme. Next time don't be so dumb as to buy a car from a dealer so far away if you are not prepared to take it back in the event of a fault.

All I meant was if you post a thread about issues with a recent car purchase you were going to get all the usual legal experts telling you that legally you have the right to do this that and the next thing (which you do), but in my experience giving the supplying dealer a chance to sort it before making demands to have it done elsewhere or for travelling compensation etc. whilst mildy inconvenient can lead to getting it sorted without major hassle whereas making various demands may lead to them just playing hardball!

Absolutely agree, but I wanted to know how to deal with it correctly.

I've bought all of my cars from auctions or private sellers and I've not had any particular nightmares, knowing what your looking at is 90% of the battle I suppose.
I've also bought a car from a dealer a long while ago which turned out to be the most hassle I've ever had with a used car especially when it came to selling the thing.

You know more about how to buy a car than I do, so buying them in auctions and buying them privately is fine with you. I'm proud of you. But I'd rather not buy a car from a private seller with 'sold as seen' warranty, as I seem to prefer at least 3 months peace of mind from my dealer; just in case.
But I did say in my post that not all private sellers are dodgy, just because I met one. Christ on the pushbike!
I buy my cars only from two dealers. One is local, and his in laws live right opposite to me. Not that I knew that before I started to buy my cars from him, but that's where I bought my Impreza Turbo and a few other decent cars from. Other one is on the Wirral that sells mint cars only. The ancient man there is sound as a pound! I had to use my warranty they gave me on the mint VW they sold me. What it was that I noticed on the papers that there should have been two keys for my car. As they only provided one, I moaned. He was so good that he got a new key done for me straight away from the original VW dealer, and I picked it in no time. There're not some old fashioned normal keys either, for they're top notch, expensive, Scottish shortbread lookalike ignition keys, actually. Now if that were a private seller, he would have told me to jog on.
Therefore, you can, by all means buy your car from the moon, even. I don't mind. I'll buy them from where I like, if you don't mind.

Whenever I buy a car it's usually because I fancy a particular car so I start searching for what I'm after and that means I'm looking at dealers all over the place who happen to be selling what I'm after.
There's good dealers and there's bad dealers, some dealers ( one often mentioned on here ) would probably be less help than a private seller.
I've never been in the position where I've had more money than I need, so generally speaking I buy private simply because I'm probably saving a grand on the same product being sold by a dealer.
I would also eat your keys

Really? Why were you shouting while you were getting into their site, anyway? What was up? You could have been singing too loud. Did you set their posh cars' alarms off with your shouting or singing?
I don't listen to my music that loud, although I did go in my Impreza Turbo that had a noisy zhorst as well as a noisy sub. I never put my sub up too loud, really. I think the older gentleman who I dealt with is called Kieth. He never showed any annoyance to me, he is so sweet. In fact he showed me how loud and great the music system was in the car I bought from them. He was also very kind to show me how not to get scared if you don't have a hand break to your hand but a push button only to your right. I think I might have scared him instead by thrapping the VW like an Impreza on my test drive.
Last time I also went to the pub next door to them- to eat. I needed to contemplate what's what over some pub grub. Food was ok, just the service was a bit slow.
