I have a 3 bed terraced house to house me my misses and the 3 kids all under 11. I started my business 3 years ago and to most of your delight it's a council house, and to be honest I'm happy, I pay full rent which is £75 a week £135 council tax. The advantage is except the normal bills every other penny I earn is mine, I don't have to pay for repairs, I don't have to pay for upgrades, for instance I had a new kitchen fitted summer last year and didn't pay a penny because the old one was over 15 years old and that's only me being honest.

Matteeboy, please do not be angry about a clearly tongue in cheek thread, which I hoped to get away with having been a renter (now a rentier according to tdw) myself and being the only one in my class who had free school meals. Tdw loves it when I rehearse my poor credentials, and will no doubt improve our sociological vocabulary further as a result.
Dan wrx that sounds like a great deal. No bedroom tax. Do you have a permanently full fruit bowl though?

35 bedrooms here, each with an en-suite and a communal lounge for bingo on Thursdays.
There is a guest suite for family and 25 acres of grounds for my use.
£1000 a week, but I do get nurse to wash my ***** every morning .....

He may not have the biggest house, but his pad is quite impressive, to be fair. No mystery to Scoobynetters either. https://www.scoobynet.com/non-scooby...on-of-one.html
He's realistically a hard working Doctor of Medicine on a pretty good wage, so he can realistically afford a property like that. It's the pumped up bullsitters that get my goat meowing.
What happens it that when one person talks about his real wealth, others start to compete and look as good or even better than them. Some get terribly jealous, and start calling the privileged one names. I remember when he was getting a stick for his car on Other Marques (I think), because he appreciated it more than once. That was unfair imo. Jealous twits.
Other than that, we do have people here who think that if they don't boast about their financial gains, they'll become non-entity. Well. I agree with them.

Enviably tidy Cpt Jack compared with my muddy mess. How do you find the velux windows compared to the dormer? I have some rotten Victorian style single glazed dormers I am thinking of ripping out to replace with velux. Should let more light in, be warmer, and not lose significant headroom I think.
I am under no illusion that the houses normal folk work hard for are loose change to some, but it is all relative, and we all like a good nosey. There was a nice PH thread on best garages, still running I think, some great ideas.

Capt Sparrow's tidy house is an urban house. Your house bears a cool character of a country house with it's muddiness.
Sparrow's tidy nest is nice, but I'd rather buy a house like yours with barn and all the mud that comes with it when I win a lottery.

We were always quite lucky in Cumbria as prices were low untill 10 years ago
Compared to the rest of the uk
If you were lucky and had a well paid job at sellafield you were laughing
My first house I bought when I was just 19
Wages were £66 a week which was a decent wage for my age
I moved in and struggled to pay the bills due to my desire to spend money
On cars and chicks
I rented out my two back bedrooms to lads. Went to school with
But one drunk and the other one smoked and I couldn't stand living with
Them so moved out and they paid off my first mortgage
Then the market went crazy with one house I bought for 48k rising to 68k
In 9 months after I put wood chip on the walls and paint it magnolia
And giving free furniture with it and advertising itin the local
Free paper with a homemade sale sign outside
They were the days of house selling and moving forward in life
And rentals were good and less legal things to worry about I made more on properties
Then my normal salary for years but mortgages were 9% but savings
Rates were not much less
Could not do it now though that's why the boy moved to Aussie to make
His fortune while I rattle around in my big old house cutting up bits of wood
To make the coal last a bit longer as it's dear to live nowadays

I know you like a good nosey John. So here is what I'm up to at the moment with my own house. I'm having some major refurb/extension work done and this is the new master bedroom being built.
I know I don't have the most expensive or biggest house on SN. However I've had input into all parts of it, from tiny details to the heating system, kitchens, bathrooms etc. So to me it really feels like a home rather than just a house. Anyway, some pics.

they have their pro's and con's
where they are positioned for light and air in the summer is second to none..
however in the winter..... like now when it rains heavy it drums on them and make a hell of a racket and has been known to wake me up in the night...
they are not in the bedroom either...

Thanks Cpt Jack. These are the dormers I am thinking of changing to velux. One is an ensuite, one a dressing room that already has a velux on the back (these used to be one room, the lounge, the layout was weird), third is a corridor and the fourth a guest room that also has a velux on the back. Most of the noise is wind rather than rain here, so guess they might be quieter and more secure, certainly less draughty.
Deep, you're certainly getting stuck in, nice to have a nosey, thanks.
