The country residence. Some brat photobombed my image, forty lashes of the birch should teach that whippersnapper a lesson.

Well as ding and john have posted some great examples and I enjoy reading about DIY and work in progress
This is my main residence ( I've posted lots of pictures of my cars next to it anyway amd security is good ) the wife bites !!

Bought it 16 years ago very cheap
Been owned for 40 years by a couple of retired farmers and there was 3 point plugs and sockets and only 4 worked in the whole house
Gas boiler had been condemned 20 years ago
Most windows were rotten
Fireplace was in the kitchen
Bathroom had never been used for 20 years along with most of the house as they lived in the kitchen and back bedroom spending time doing the large garden
I knew the house for years before it came up for sale and bought it outright privately sold as seen with no building survey as I knew what I was taking on !!

Hence a labour of love for 5 years of my life ,no holidays or spare money for cars etc
And basically replaced everything ,electrics ,heating ,windows added a conservatory extended the kitchen and decorated
Being handy I did lots of it myself to save money and useing my contacts in the trade

I then spend 2years sorting out the garden area too As that's my passion as well as cars

Still lots to do which will take me another few years as wages aren't as good as they used to be and I'm involved with many other projects which take up my time and my dream of a hugh luxury garage will happen one day to replace the 2 separate ones and sheds .
Unfortunetly after 90 years and much patching off the original roof I'm going to have To bite the bullet and a nice red tiled roof is on the cards for 2015 budget

Nice looking pad LH

Though it's obviously much larger than average that is not the point. What matters, as you have said, is the time and effort spent in making it a home

Dan wrx that sounds like a great deal. No bedroom tax. Do you have a permanently full fruit bowl though?
Eh, I'm not angry! I said I detect anger!
Some nice houses on here; this (rented) place isn't flashy but it has five bedrooms, two kitchens, a decent garden and garage and direct views of the Atlantic; usually great but it currently means we get hammered by storms! The position is great though; a two minute walk to the beach and best equipped Spar in the UK (apparently!)!

We'd quite like to buy it at some stage.

Meagre 4 bedroom detatched, roughly 100 sqm living space + garage and parking for 2-3 cars outside in a small hick village in the Black Forest. Cost me about 90 grand 5 years ago

Snot much but it is big enough for me and my 2 cars.

Four bed det about 120m of living + garage. Cost 44K in 86 which was the max I could afford at the time. Extended about 20 years ago to add bedroom and en suite bathroom.

Taylor Wimpey 4 Bed Detached. Built, rebuilt & sold on a few large houses in the past but have now decided to come down to the real world with proper heating bills . Can post a picture but it standard with integral single garage & a couple of en suites. I do however still have my bolt hole in San Pedro

We built a 3 bed roomed detached home in Cebu Philippines for the grand total
Of £2500
Luxuries was a flushing toilet which cost £50 3 weeks wages out there as
They are classed as a luxury item and a solid mahogany staircase which
We got from a reclaimed yard for £14 four blokes delivered it strapped to a
Roof of a jeepney and we gave them a couple of Quid for beer
Very rough workmanship out there with no such things as screws just hammer
And nails

Ive nearly finished doing up our house, just needs a bit more filler round the window and door, i'll probably repaint the front door as well. It was a right mess before it was done up.
