January is a quiet month for most dealers, and month end might be a good time to get a better deal.

As for the S3, I had one for 2 years and to be 100% with you I did not like it. But then it was a stop gap and I like my big engines and the 2.0 is a bit lacking low down. The good thing was it lost only £5k in those 2 years, paid £23k and got £18k and that was a trade in too.

That might be my other worry, I got my S3 (black ed with very good spec) for £23k - no idea what list price was but must have been £30k+. It was 10 months old when I got it...

like this with most cars SRS to be honest, nothing really grabs me other than a GTR or some silly daft model.

Im now told by 2 other Audi dealers that i should snap Leeds Audis hand off at the price they quoted me.

thats good to know.

If nothing grabs you why not wait a year until you know which one you do want and then save a fortune buying a 1 year old model...or get a new car that is yet to come out that you do want?

i have the E350 currently which has to go back in July nothing i can do, so in the time from now till then i need to source a car.
Due to the nature of my job i need to buy one thats no more than 3 years old,

Appreciate what your saying, I suppose a new car is always a nice to have, and at least with the Audi it isnt depreciating as much as the VXR would, as it reatains the resale of 17800 after 4 years which is good in a way.

Ive hung in since last april when i sold the scooby, but i dont see much coming out, I see Honda have the TypeR turbo coming 2015 but thats ages away.
My main thing i wanted was

FAST ie scooby fast 300PS area
4WD
and over 30MPG

I originally went for an Astra VXR, unknown to me that Both VW and Audi had a new 300PS engine, i also though an S3 would be too much, ( never specced one on that basis )

Subaru sti would have been nice, but after looking at whats planned to come out i wont bother plus i feel the dealers are slowly in decline.
for what im paying i could get a massive A6 Black edition but i know after 3 months itll be boring AS hell and id hate it.
Out of all my previous cars only the scoob, Astra VXR and Civic Type R i wanted to drive, the rest of the **** i got were boring and no fun....

I did look for 2nd hand as the finance im getting would cover a better model but not really seen much i like

Why not get a GTR if you want one? I don't find the running costs are high and the depreciation has been most reasonable, reliability similar to any other car I have had. I'll stop gushing soon, but I also find it very rewarding and challenging to drive, most that disagree haven't driven one. It is a completely different experience to a Golf, mild tuning can give you 400 HP at half of red line RPM but it still feels great. The rear bias makes it playful, but with stability if you wish it depending on traction control settings and tyre choice.

Just seen your note about max 3 years old, rules out GTR for £33k except the odd nail.

hehe yeah GTR would be out, the running costs would be more than the scooby was and i presume fuel wasnt great either.

I think with either the Gold or S3 if i take it easy on the Motorway i may get 400 to a tank which is good, ( i got 300 in scoob)

Insurance for me here is 211 quid fully comp

Only ballache is Audi and Golf service will be 300 where as im used to paying sub 200

Check the fuel tank size; it's pretty small on the Golf.
Filled ours earlier and not a lot of petrol went in...!

I'm facing a similar choice for my next company car.....I'm leaning towards the Audi as I think it's going to work out a little cheaper due to better residuals.

The drive should be very similar BUT I am going to wait until I've driven the Golf before I decide as I'm in no rush to change.

I've driven the Audi and actually quite liked it. Nippy, comfy place to sit, nice interior. Slighty plain outside and not as fun to drive as the M135i but 4wd is a bonus.

Totally agree with u , wish they would allow nice wheels, I'm told the max the arches take are the 18 only the saloon can take bigger.
It is pretty plain, I,ll prob have the wheels dipped gloss black.
I sat in the 3 door and tested the back and it was ok but my knees were either side of the seat in a fashion. I then went and tested the 5 door lots more room in the back in that one.

Spoke to the manager and he's actually ordered amalfi white for himself, think it's gotta be the white well dirty white I call it or cream. The seats are lovely though I,ll give them that

Always wanted napa leather in an audi, but never could afford it, I was a cheap *** volcona man

Compared to our MkV GTI, the GTR driven at similar pace is about 7mpg worse, so probably 10mpg worse than a MkVII. Insurance is £305 for me.

If you want a car that's great to drive, try a Megane 265 Cup.
Some will say Renaults break down all the time, but that's not my experience. Might not be as nice inside as a VW or an Audi, but who cares? You should be able to get a good finance deal too.

If you think you'd miss 4wd, have a read of this

i'm looking at these 2 cars also

Merc A45 amg has crept into the mix now for me, would have to be a base spec, but a good spec golf/audi is not far off.

AMG has discounts as do the golf and audi.

Anyone drove all 3? Merc is getting me a demo car to try, vw hasnt got there demo yet, yet to pop in audi and see if they have a demo car.....

VW 5dr manual £27,817
Audi 5dr manual £29,369
Merc A45 dual clutch £36,641

Discounted offers i have, otr prices, is the merc worth that much more?

I drove

M135i
S3 3 door
A45 none performace exhaust model.

I tried the R but none about to drive,
I managed to get 1000 off A45, but youll get much larger discounts on the others, What I found skippy S3 and Vw will match each other, but after driving the s3, it didn't have the Xfactor, it was nice inside but didn't feel quick to me.

Now the M135 was quick but looks in my view Bland, and I was honestly tring to get away from RWD, as my current E350 is crap in the wet. That being said for a RWD car its got bags of Grip.

When I drove the A45 it grabbed me by the *****, I wanted it straightaway, I bought the Base spec but with 19inch black wheels and Harmon Kardon Stereo, as this does sound good.

Ive over time added stuff

becker Mappilot £495 its plug and play, there a hole in glove box, Ebay have them cheaper.
AMG drivers pack, another 500 ish Include new steering wheels with alcantara, special AMg key wooooo, and the fancy Gear ****.

This week I added Aero Kit and Exhaust. total 5800 in extras.
I,ll just Visa it as I want the car to look special,

If I have any advice at least get the wheel upgrade as it makes one hell of a difference

one other thing after emailing honestjohn and speaking to a few people, the DSG/Stronic gearbox isn't had good as Mattes BMW one and this put me off because they cost a lot outa warranty. The AMg one is a 7 speed AMG engineered one, so should be good

I assume the M135i isn't a contender? Or the upcoming M235i?
RWD, 320bhp, great chassis, a much nicer noise and full torque from almost idle.

I think your prices are too cheap, Merc is about 38 > 39K

Stronic S3 is about 31k. Its about 5k diff once you've added toys.
Merc gets quite a few above what the Audi has

front and rear parking
tinted windows
Auto lights and wipers
Bluetooth
Xenon Lights
auto Hold assist

All extra on Audi

Good price that I also got a roof rack thrown in so 1200 discount..
If you ask for pre orders you can get one fairly quick but in a certain spec, as your not wanting much you may only have a 4 week lead, mines 20 weeks lol

Defo the S3 as the gold looks way too boring and like a normal Golf. The S3 Saloon looks stunning. I saw one at a Motorshow and would defo have one.

Having had a few new golf r in at work there a very nice car, the s3 and golf are the same car bar looks,

Personal opinion you wouldn't see me spending 35k on a golf.

Is 4wd a necessity. .

There's a guy with a golf r, forged engine with a turbo, 450bhp dsg is getting to 60 in 2.8s and the power comes in at 3000rpm lol

Silly quick. 100mph in sub 7 seconds.

Cupra do u work in a dealers ?

If not your comments " a few Golf R " was what worried me, being cheap to lease etc doesn't make them special like they should be.

Nice cars mind, and mad fast as above if done right
