Subaru update
Update: just called marlin motors and they said that they had it on a rolling road and that the fuelling and boost is all ok , they are still working on it and doing more checks to see if they can resolve the issue.. Will keep you updated....

Boost and fuelling is easy to diagnose but what about ignition advance? If the knock sensor's working, the ECU should be pulling timing when it hears the onset of det. I assume they have the software to read this and the mapping ability to adjust/correct the map if appropriate?

From that, we can take it that it is actually det.

Hi,sorry to revive an old thread..I've had mine at Torque Developments today for a power run and they're saying mine is showing high detonation at 6250rpm so they aborted it due to that. They mentioned something about the ignition!!.The AFR is all good..Any ideas anyone?.Its just had a full service too..

It was mapped in December by Slowboy Racing,he's got a good rep on here so I trust his work..If it's only a matter of a map tweak then I can get it back to TDI.As far as I'm aware it's an open source map too..

Hope it's nothing to major and fingered crossed you can get it resolved with just a map tweak, mine ended up being ring land failure but it was covered in the AA warranty that I bought when I bought the car from a garage, best ever £595 I had spent otherwise it would of cost £3300 including a bottemend rebuild. Anyway please keep us updated and once again I hope you get it sorted relatively easily ...

The engine is under very light load in first and the ecu effectively disables boost if its still running std mapping so thats no health indicator.
A rolling road won't tell you anything in itself, the car has to be logged with a laptop and the data correctly interpreted, in fact the rollers could stress it to extinction if you are unlucky as the cooling is not good relatively. But it could be an advantage if its used tentatively as its certainly possible to hear more in close proximity to the car. But .. if there is a problem its very possible you have cracked a piston which is what you could be experiencing
