After I replaced the engine for a second time and everything going back in smooth I new there was nothing wrong I new everything was in place as it should have..

But still had the same issue would only go into gear when the car was off

So bought a bleed kit from halfords and bleeded the slave cylinder and like magic I could get it into gear when running albeit It abit hard when I'm trying to get 1st when at a stop but I can select gears now when running, I may invest in a new slave and see if that make everything perfect but the sub is drivable

Hi guys
I've had impreza's for 14 yrs and have done n a good few engine and gearbox changes .
I was waggy doo on hear a good few years ago. But just recently joined again.
First clutch I did was on my WRX v ltd 12 yrs ago, on my drive , car on axle stands , what a complete bitch of a job. So I feel your pain .

Since the. I've always taken engine out .
What I can say is that bleeding the clutch is not like bleeding the brakes , I've suffered the same issues you are talking about, try opening the bleed nipple and pumping the clutch pedal with it open 7 or 8 times , then on last time to floor lock the nipple , do this 2 or 3 times .
I'm no expert but I could not get a good clutch pedal without doing this pump type method .
