LOL OF COURSE it's dangerous. So is driving to work, riding a bike etc.

But the FACT remains is that they DID NOT cause an accident, or hurt anyone, yet were given FOUR (count 'em) punishments with a savage fifth in wait.

Yet if I go and hurt someone, hospitalise him, I'll get one.

Where's the parity?

And what are we doing punishing people so hard for what they MIGHT have done, FFS?

I used to hate the VII. Prob because of one of the Fast and Furious films (no. II if memory serves). But now that I'm a middle aged ****, I rather like 'em. Or at least don't mind them.

The one I don't like is the VIII, with that awful Veilside-esque front.

I know 'The Daddy' is the VI, or the 'VI-and-a-half' TME/Monte Carlo. The ultimate expression of the Evo.

But I find myself gravitating towards the more grown up IX. In GT spec, in white. (Despite the extra weight, compared to earlier models).

144mph on a public road in traffic is outrageous, speedo's were probably saying nigh on 160mph which is a bit mental when you think about it.

A pair of idiots and their sentence serves as a warning to other would be idiots.

The sentence is harsh and rightly so, but I understand those saying it's one rule for legal drivers and another for illegal ones, but illegal drivers have zero respect for the law of the land and no amount of sentence or ban is going to change that as it's something to be proud of for them, this sentence IMO is about sending a message to ordinary law abiding citizens.

Load of bollax about safety cameras being for our benefit in the article though, yeah righto.

I passed comment about this on Facebook earlier and was greated with various replys, while i was not saying what they did was ok i was pointing out that the sentence seemed harsh. The Police said they were not racing and there was no mention of no insurance etc, if you watch the Police programmes we always see uninsured or no licence etc that are speeding or even getting points on a licence they dont have.

call me cynical but if they had been scoobies would you all be saying similar comments or would it be ,,,,,,,I bet he has this mod and big wheels and look at the spoiler on that car.

at the end of the day the drivers knew they were breaking the law and if they had not got caught this time in the future..........

would you have said it was a harsh penalty if someone hit your prized possession at that sort of speed or would you say ah well what a shame...I think not

there are places to do this and the public roads are not the time or place

I see a lot of guys making track debuts in very powerful cars who suddenly come unstuck for one reason or another because at that sort of speed you need reactions so quick.

JUST MY OPINIONS

Some of the comments on here make me laugh. Yes they didn't cause accident this time around and how do we know they don't have priors. I am a speed demon myself when It comes to track days but more than double the national speed limit is just selfishness ans stupidity. The consequences if they had hit a car or lost control at those speeds, its not worth thinking about and in all honesty they should be banned for life.

Anyone in this thread defending them obviously want there heads testing and comparing it to the autobahn has no relevance as some of that now is restricted and in the parts where you can get to full speed people are expecting it.

Anyone want a cheap evo lol

How about the copper who escorted is prisoner at 140. In his defence it stated he wasn't driving dangerously. He kept his job. No parity whatsoever

If your going above 70 then take what you get.

I've done it, been aware of the consequences and wouldn't have anyone to blame but myself in their situation.

I wouldn't say it's harsh by any means, as said previously it's probably more a message to everyone rather than a message to them.

To teach people a proper lesson, take away the ability to repeat the crime in the future....

Absolute load of bollox.

A big fine and a 12 month ban would be sufficient. Anything else is way over the top and a pisstake.

Let's be honest. Many folk on here drive cars that will reach those speeds with relative ease and for those with powerful motorbike a twist of the throttle with a couple of gear changes and you'll be upto those speeds in no time. Hands up those folk who have never driven the car way above the legal limit? I bet you most folk have at some time or another. I've driven at above 150mph gps during the day with light traffic on the motorway however i still had to overtake lorries and people dawdling along at 50mph. Mind you this was on a derestricted section of the motorway in Germany.

Yes, they were stupid for doing such a thing during such a time on a Saturday especially knowing that what they were doing was ilegal and wrong too however is there really a need to cripple their lives for the next three years (driving ban)? Could this ban be the reason they fall further foul with the law? Maybe if he didn't have licence, insurance, etc he would have got off with a lighter punishment.

Some might say that the punishment is a deterrent to other drivers thinking of the same bla bla however as others have pointed out when the punishment for driving a bit like a dick is so severe why is punishment for kicking crap out of someone so light in comparison? The drivers did not harm anyone? They could have harmed someone if they had crashed/caused a crash however using the same logic a guy thumping another random guy could have knocked him into a coma and caused his death so therefore should be charged with murder! Daft logic eh.

So are you saying that they should be committed to 4 months in jail and the car thieves not?

Yes they've been fools and could cause an accident even a fatal one , but they haven't , a ban and a fine should be enough ....

As much as most of us being grown ups here and i totally agree on this particular situation , all of us have done this kind of thing at some point in our lives...
