The prosecuting officer argued he had to travel well in excess of a hundred to apprehend the bloke. The defendant cited that this could also be construed as dangerous driving. The police officer asserted he was trained to drive at high speed safely. His driving ability was above that of an average driver. To this the defendant replied 'so is mine, I teach you and your colleagues to drive like that'. He was an advanced driving instructor. The case was dismissed forthwith.

So are you saying that they should be committed to 4 months in jail and the car thieves not?
Yes they've been fools and could cause an accident even a fatal one , but they haven't , a ban and a fine should be enough ....
As much as most of us being grown ups here and i totally agree on this particular situation , all of us have done this kind of thing at some point in our lives...

Just to clarify - they have not gone to jail!

and that's why insurance is high for all of us.
out of interest... a 21 yr old with a RS Focus.... how'd he afford that, run it and insure it? or is it his Dad's car

My thoughts too! When I was 21 there wasn't a chance on earth I could afford to insure a car like that, that's even if any company would touch you!

I have no sympathy for these two. Yes I agree the sentences do seem a little on the harsh side, however I believe the judge set it this way as a deterrent to other road users.
People saying that it's too harsh as they didn't cause a crash or didn't lose control are ignorant and it's totally irrelevant.
Conspiracy to murder and attempted murder gets the same mandatory life sentence as murder. Well you could say that they didn't actually murder the person so how can they get life? It doesn't matter the mens rea was there. They intentionally hit 144mph fully knowing that if they did lose control or did hit into someone then the police will be picking body parts up from the road.
Totally reckless.

The laws of the country are fairly clear and the punishments above 100 leptons get proportionately sterner the further north you go. At the end of the day, you do the crime, you take the time but please don't come on PH or similar forums and whinge about it. You got caught, deal with it. This is not to say that I have never sped or been caught for that matter.
The main problem I have with this event is the time of day the event happened when we can probably assume there were other cars with families in on the road. One bloke barrelling along at 140mph in those conditions isn't great when other road users aren't used to it, but the knobber tail gating and pushing the RS along is worse and an accident waiting to happen. It wasn't so long ago that 2 cars being raced by some Asian lads had a pretty big 'off', think it was a Beemer which was the car where the lad was killed. Just goes to show how wrong it can go when folk start ***** waving.
