Apparently, having an 'eco' car is the cool thing to do now.

I have never been a follower of fashion so two fingers up to the 'cool' brigade!
Super Unleaded, 4wd, Turbo and 20mpg all day long it is what I want.

Don't get me wrong they are good capable cars if modded correctly but with the new breed owners arrived, nobody wants to be seen with that same image, eventually we grow old and buy something else more modern and maybe a cheap track toy for our thrills
Mx5 race car > Clio 172 and now next I'm looking at a teg type r maybe

But it's a Subaru forum , there's only so many questions to be asked so the same ones are always going to be asked. I mean say you have a problem with a camera you just bought 2nd hand. You google it but you join a photography forum just to discuss the details rather than just read hundreds of search results. The problem may be one that the regulars have heard and answered a dozen times , but what if they all just give you abuse or tell you to use the seatch function ? You might be just starting to take an interest , or starting to get into the scene , but to be met with this attitude would scare most people off.

If you dont want to hear questions on Subarus you're on the wrong forum. (Also you don't have to read the threads in technical either)

Charly: I've bought cameras and etc, and the first thing I do when I need to know something is get onto my old friend Google.

VERY rarely does it let me down, and CERTAINLY NOT with easy, oft repeated technical stuff...only with obscure stuff which is what a forum is for.

I respond to technical threads, if and when I can be bothered. That's becoming less frequent now, as it's a bit rinse and repeat in there. Seemingly every other day the same questions are asked.

I make no claim to know everything Subaru related, but, I've picked up a great deal of invaluable knowledge in that time. Some of that has been stuff that I've worked out for myself, the rest of it has come from other users, the likes of AndyF, P20SPD, Wallis, Harvey(RIP), Pavlo, Pat - to name just a few, who no longer post on here.

I agree with that old grump, Alcazar, sorry Jeff you are grumpy and older than me - folk appear to be getting lazier.

Yes the search function is a bit ****, but, at least try it. Problem is, some of the newer SN users appear to be completley illiterate at worst or very badly educated at least, so it's no wonder the search funtion won't work for them.

The search function is awful. Either you get a 20 page thread that contains those words in there somewhere, or if you search for those words within thread titles you get very little success.
Ironically, If you put the same words into google, you get more hits, mostly from this site .
I search whenever I get a problem, which is usually daily, and end up having to start a new thread.

However, whilst having problems recently with the running of my car I got a few replies on here and about 35 replies on Facebook from scoobynet members.

This site should really start shutting off some of it's sections. As time passes there are less and less Subaru's on the road.

The site search isn't good, but if Google finds what you want, what's the problem?

Personally, I tend to use google when searching for stuff on Scoobynet too, because i find it faster than clicking through random buttons and selecting sub forums etc etc to get the search results the way I want.

Basically, all you have to do is go on google.com, and type:

site:bbs.scoobynet.com <your search terms>

It's super easy, even a non-nerd should manage that in this day and age

The fact that it's the standard answer from some people , but it's horrible to use !

Anyway , my standpoint on it is this (and my opinion won't change) if people were half as enthusiastic about criticising and telling people to use the search , they could have easily just have answered the bloody question in the first place and moved on !

Oooorrrr....those sick of seeing the same questions pop up could save the links to similar questions being answered in the past
For example...

Q.What happens if I smoke crack?

That's a point of view, but some of the stuff I help folk with takes ME an age to type pout, two fingered.

I suppose I COULD save it all to MY computer, then copy and paste, but tbh, why should I go to the trouble if the folk who want the info won't?

But they are, most anyway I'd imagine. Just not finding the answers.
Having recently fitted gauges for the first time (apart from boost) I found the information I needed across several different threads, and even then it wasn't 100%.
I understand what you mean, I spent an hour or so typing long winded instructions to someone wanting to do the same on FB but I know how he felt.

Just to highlight the point....

Here is a scoobynet search for oil pressure gauge fitting....

And here is "impreza fitting oil pressure gauge" on google.

You posted asking for info and I'm pretty sure you got it.
So the site works I'd say.

Yup, but that's what's being said, that the same questions are being asked by noobs like myself and "use the search function" but the search function doesn't work lol.
Google searches scoobynet better than scoobynet searches itself.
