So you haven't driven an STI? I have owned two STI's and now a WRX. And to be honest, on UK roads, the WRX is the perfect compromise. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds is not slow.

MPG is easily worked out. Not sure about the 3 gallon method though...
Zero your trip mileage went you fill up. Next time you fill up, divide the mileage by the litres added and then multiply by 4.55 and you have your MPG.
For example, 255 miles divided by 40 litres times 4.55 = 29.2 MPG.

I guess the 3 gallon guy always puts 13.635 litres every time!

When you consider the performance, the turbo, the fact that 4 wheels are driven etc I think that the MPG is fairly reasonable for Imprezas.
I used to have BMW 325ci sport and used the get 36 MPG out of that in a long run. In my impreza I got 33.9 MPG on a long run. Not bad considering it was powering twice as many wheels!

My Subaru is better then my Works can which is a Sprinter it only does on average 21MPG but I rag it everywhere from cold and couldn't careless about it lol.
I think I get around 25MPG on my Subaru but I couldn't care about MPG but the Impreza is the best car I've owned for MPG!
If I really need to not use so much fuel I just nick the fiancées Cupra FR that's revo'd running 210BHP and averages 50MPG haha

I fill it to the brim and get about 150 mixed motorway/ town miles until I need to fill it up again. I don't bother with conserving fuel or anticipate the road ahead other than to see if it's safe to let rip and get the back end out...

Read this.
http://www.metrompg.com/posts/winter-mpg.htm
It isn't exactly a new discovery but common sense. I get 5-7mpg less doing the same journeys from the peak of summer to the coldest months of winter. Air is colder in the winter and therefore, more dense, so the car ecu throws in more fuel to achieve the correct mixture and prevent the engine from running lean.

I would have thought colder air would just mean more power at lower revs hence less throttle needed to cruise, funny how it all works.

Yup and as I keep telling cess pit...
I don't own an impreza of any description, doesn't change the fact I know the wrx is the poor relation to the sti in every respect.
I have driven a wrx on many occasions as my Mrs still owns one and its slow compared to an sti despite cess pits claims
