I've mentioned this on here before - that when I worked for the Benefits Agency I had some claimants that would come in and kick off because they didn't think they were getting enough money, in actual fact they were getting more money than I was.
It still didn't stop them threatening to knife me/ shoot me/ chop my hands off/ stab my eyes out...

But, I never once met a claimant that I thought "Wow, I wish I had your life!"

If someone thinks having eight children is the easiest path to take then good luck to them.

She's not a slag. The title of this thread should be 'benefit scrounger'.

Btw, men who sleep around are also slags, if slag means a village bike.

This is a good point.
For anyone with half a brain, it quite clearly is not.
TBF, I don't really blame her for following a course of action that is quite clearly a viable source of income, not only for her, but for her children as well.
The fact of the matter is that she is trapped into a situation which she is extremely unlikely to escape by dint of hard work or intelligence.
It is what it is.

Over the past couple of years there has been a systematic process gaining momentum, the vilifying of benefit claimants. It's buoyed by the right wing press but has political push from the Tories. Sensationalist stories like the one in this thread gets the obtuse frothing at the mouth.

Apparently due to various tightening up of benefit claims and recategorisation of the types of claims the length of time for people who are diagnosed with a debilitating illness incluidng those with a terminal illness to get benefits they now need has increased dramatically.

It has not been widely reported, but there was a small feature on Radio 5 Live the othe rmorning and some of the stories were pretty heart breaking. One man had had to go back to work at the age of 67 to find the adidtional funds for his now terminally ill wife's care until the benefit system sorted her claim out. It was taking months not weeks!

Exactly what I meant earlier by my comment "The Mail and its ilk just don't like reporting real news... I will leave you to work out why... it doesn't take a genius! "

Thanks I hadn't heard anything like this (don't listen to R5) so wondered if they'd stopped the Special Rules.

She'll be stuck when the children start to grow up and she can't claim as a single parent, she won't be receiving the £500 a week then and I can't see her having much luck getting a well paid job.

Anyone who thinks people on benefits are living the high-life needs to come and hang outside my local Job Centre for half an hour, you seriously couldn't envy any of the poor sods you see going in and out.

yes, I do laugh at that - the concept that they are living in "luxury"

well I have been fortunate enough to see, hear, touch and taste "luxury"

and won't find it in benefit street - not even on a 50" TV

A man that hates the daily mail is walking down the street, a Muslim benefit scrounger walks up and stabs him.
"I'm terribly sorry to have hurt your knife" he says.
Unfortunately as we live in a society where we think it's acceptable to keep breeding and expect others to support our kids, then the working class man is doomed, there just aren't many working class on scoobynet.

I don't think working class is very apt in this instance.
Bit of an outdated term, mainly kept alive by middle class types pretending to be working class in my experience.

How about the EU and the level of corrupton within and how it would seem that most of the population want us out or the education system being railroaded by Gove into whatever twisted vision he has for it this week or the fact that people diagnosed with terminal illnesses can't get benefits for months or the fact that HS2 has been given the green light while the Environment Agency has no money to sort out the floods etc. etc. but no peope like you would rather get upset about a woman claiming for 8 kids on benefits!
Correct. Many far larger issues need addressing. The ones that are much harder for Daily Fail readers to understand.

1% of the £120bn spent every year is apparently spent in fraudulent cases when it comes to benefits, that's not including housing benefits and of course doesn't include the fraudulent cases that aren't proven.
Considering some people are open enough to be pictured in a national newspaper in an obvious case of benefit fraud you would imagine that 1% is far far larger.
When I say working class, I mean people like myself who earn only slightly above what I would make if I gave up work and allowed the state to pay for me and my children.
I've said it before, I know a chap who until recently worked all of his life, Is perfectly healthy and is used to a decent wage. Having been made redundant he earns £1800 a month in benefits, and would need a relatively well paid job to earn what he gets for sitting on his backside.

It is very tempting for someone like me to stop getting up at 5 in the morning, get soaking wet on the way to work to struggle to break even week after week. The idea of buying a house is so far in my future, and being the youngest of four brothers I am probably the closest to getting on the property ladder.
It is nothing to do with the daily mail, these people exist whether the middle class who never see these issues want to believe it or not.

Even the lady on benefits street said outright it's far too easy not to work in this country.

It is true that there are a large number of people who work and earn just enough not to receive any benefits.
I feel truly sorry for these people who try to do the right thing and are not rewarded by the state.

As for the case of this lady in question - I think it quite likely that she would not have had eight children if she did not receive welfare payments/free housing/fine exemptions etc etc.
As for the upbringing/future for these children - that is a matter of some conjecture, but I would say it is likely to be far from ideal. I mean the parents are not setting a great example here.
There seem to be some posters who think these matters are a drop in the ocean and are not to be worried about.
As far as the money is concerned, I would agree.
As far as the view of those working and trying to do the right thing, I am not so sure.
As far as the future for these children - no-body seems to be saying much do they - bit of a hot potato maybe?

@ James above.

The real inequity which was more or less ignored in the story was the bus lane fines in question. Since September the cameras issued fines totaling a staggering 4.8 million pounds. Motorists caught out protested at the lack of signs and road markings. The majority of people going to court won their appeals, proving the fines were unfair and the signage inadequate.
The fact the Mail chose to ignore this fact, and instead chose to paint how a 'promiscuous benefit leach' was being given 'preferential' treatment is a testament to the papers level of journalistic integrity. Radio Four ran a story on the same cameras and surmised they were poorly signed (signs high up and not visible from cars) and road markings not clearly visible. An advanced driving instructor drove the piece of road in question and stated, had he not had prior knowledge of the bus lane he would have fallen victim to the cameras.
Birmingham City Council did have a representative in the studio but his defence was limp wristed and incoherent. Basically he couldn't offer a defence of either the signage or the road markings. He did say they were reviewing matters in light of the huge number of succesful appeals.
As Chris stated earlier there a lot of other issues worthy of discussing. Like flood victims having to pay premium rates to ring the flood helpline
David Cameron's response was to suggest it shouldn't be a premium rate! I could go on but I think the video below sums up the public's response to the Daily Mail's standing as a paper. Even Platell has a little smile.

What they also don't tell you is that those motorists winning their appeals will have spent more than the fine contesting them and are not entitled to any compensation as the appeals law specifically states no compensation is to be paid for minor traffic offences.

It's a giant scam!

However, when the newspapers would rather focus on a benefit claimant than the real story and morons lap it up like it's the most heinous thing in the world what hope do we have?

Tha Mail is a scum ridden rag and anyone buying it should probably be prevented from breeding!

To have read this story you must have clicked the link, therefore contributing to their websites unique hits and also their revenue.
Pretty much an admission that you yourself are a moron also and should be prevented from breeding (if natural selection hasn't already taken care of that) .

I love that you get so angry at a newspaper but still click on their links ha ha

People like me with high IQs are the ones that should be breeding, but many of us choose not to as bringing kids into a world where uneducated bigoted dolts like you are the mainstay of the population is not something many of us want to do so in that way you are right about natural selection!

The rest of your post, however, is another of your illogical and failed corollaries unworthy of discussion or consideration by someone as remarkably intelligent as myself!
