WARNING TO ALL NEWAGE OWNERS. Front subframe removal
#31
Fingers fooking crossed they will retest it tomoz and pass it!
#33
That is exactly it, And just to clear up any confusion It was only the Bug Spec-C RA that didn't come with the front u-frame, All other newage Imprezas have them as standard including the blob/hawk spec c too
#35
As Gaz said blob/ hawk spec c do come with subframe.
The reason is not to increase stiffness but in case of a frontal accident to pull the engine and gearbox down and under passenger rather than allowing into cabin space.

Is it not a good thing that mine is rusty as **** then ? The **** will fall out of my front end and the engine will fly down the road away from me in an accident !

Well, it sold. I dont thing i made a profit, but got what i have put in back i think!
Obv bar running the thing fuel etc lol
Not got a clue what to replace it with tho. Idea was to get something cheap to run, at least 40mpg and cheap road tax to free up some cash so i can finish the house!
But things like that are a bit poo... I think im just going to have to be sensible for a bit, but ill be bored after a day!

It's either there or it's not
Preference or not
...... Please people .....
It's a cradle designed for suppression
Take it as u will
I here challenge anybody to conform it is a crash related infastructure
... It's primary function is to dampen engine to chassis vibration
End off
I personally have searched hi & lo to find a definitive answer ...
Only 1 official subaru video came up
& it revealed the info structure was indeed a cradle for engine / chassis / damping
The video is on here

No offence intended

I'm sure it's been documented on 22b that it's also something to do with directing the engine/box under the car as opposed to into the cabin. I'd guess it's the same principle regardless of design or model

Nice find Rickya
That cradle looks & is nothing like the newage cradle
Hey , no sweat if I'm wrong
But come on , how can a 3 sided square be a safety feature
ESP as it's integrity is the leading edge , & that will be destroyed on frontal impact
Nice try tho

Well I took mine off a couple of months ago and it looks pretty much identical to that bar the centre cross member that the engine sits on which is part of what it's bolted to. think I might be putting mine back on.

Each to their own I suppose, but the facts are there.

It's mad how some of you are proud that you managed to fudge the mot for a car which potentially could be carrying a loved one. It's there for a reason but then if you save a little weight who cares hey, tell that to your loved one when they have a flat four on there lap. And if it's rusted then buy another.

It looks like the early versions were a U shape and seperate but the one in the video is all part of the cross member,
If it was so dangerous if removed why would they sell the Spec C without it in the early days when they were already fitting them to other models ?
Im trying to work out how holding the engine and gearbox up is helping, Id have thought it dropping down and crumpling may be safe then a sedge pushing it all back towards my feet.
just my 2p worth

That's wtf I'm talking about
#59
You know what I'm talking about otherwise you wouldn't have reacted the way you did. It's the way you in particular jump about saying how great your mot guy/guys are for passing your mot for the last 3 years. I'd be worried about what they didn't notice.
That's wtf I'm talking about

Its easy to replace if you need to and its even open to debate as to what its purpose is.
