why a modded wrx is more fun.....

I'll be honest about the cost.
If you look at my first postings, I bought my hawk WRX because I wanted a low mileage hawk and couldn't afford (cash) a sti. I had thought of buying a blob sti but wanted an hawk.
When I bought my blob I could have afforded a hawk sti even a hatch sti but I wanted the blob as I liked the look of the new age rather than the hatch and I didn't want the soft engine 2.5.
Also it's an 06 with the expensive tax, so never bought it over a hawk to avoid twice the price of road tax lol

I was a bit annoyed as I believe the higher tax started on the 20th march 2006. My log book says registered march 2006 so for the sake of 10 days I pay twice as much to drive it lol

This debate always end up the same, the STi is obviously the better car as it has better parts on it, and is easy and more cost effect to tune up for big Bhp!
The reason for owners having a WRX is for a daily there great and for entry level Subaru ownership there good as well!
No I'm not skint and I know the STI is better then a WRX, but I bought by WRX as I never have intended and won't be going over 300BHP I'm the Impreza I've had big powered BHP cars before and to me they are better then a STI anyway so there was no need for me to go down the STI route might as we'll save a few pennies and put it towards getting the WRX how I want it!
What do I know I only bought my UK300 as I love bug eyes the most out of all models and the UK300 was my fave looking for a good base model
STI will always be a better car that's fact, but it doesn't always suit everyone's circumstances who's wanting an Impreza.

as an ex sti castrated owner(no dccd in widetrack model) what are you doing on this tread than

Best to say why you choose the WRX over a STI for reason ie money, insurance or you just wanted that level of STI then trying to justify a WRX over a STI!
As I've read before and was a good quote!
"A BMW 330CI is not better then a M3"
"A S-Line is not better then a S-Car"
Etc just enjoy what you have leave the envy alone!

The thread continues and people argue over which is better. Anyone who argues that a WRX is superior to the STi is plain deluded, it's like saying you'd rather have a tenner than a twenty bob note.
The reason some may perceive the WRX to be more fun is because it's possible to put more welly into one on the public road. I guess that's why everyone raves about the BRZ with its skinny tyres and lack of oomph. Sometimes, the faster the car the more mundane it is at sensible speeds.

Seen it on the M forums Jamie.
Some chumps reckon their 335s are better (even 335d's lol) because you can remap them whereas it's tougher to get more power out of an M3.
Forgetting the superior brakes, suspension, balance, etc etc etc...

It's the same with my STI Type R, Standard suspension which is Known to be too firm for UK roads but it's good on track which is what I bought the car for, but on the road it makes it a twitchy hand full when compared to the WRX which soaks up the bumps and undulations and is much more composed when pushing on and under heavy braking, thus making the WRX quicker in a lot of situations.
Which proves the point of STI v's WRX really, especially when you factor in the Type R has a 200kg and over 50bhp advantage it seems mental and most would say it's not possible because the numbers don't stack up, which is how we got to the tale of the ferrari and the Rover the last time I believe.
It's all well and good having **** loads of power, race car suspension and brakes but getting that power down and keeping the car on the road pointing in the right direction is a whole different ball game especially on twisty uneven damp pot holed surfaces that have seen better days, then there is the more money than talent / experience factor too.
These boards are littered with tales of Fiesta ST's up my chuff in a 300+ bhp Type R, and be-wildered Subaru owners thinking there must be something wrong with the car when the fact is it's not all about out right power figures, it's about suitability for the conditions the vehicle is going to be used in and that's why we get these seemingly tall tales of Rover the Ferrari Slayer, coming to a forum, put any of these cars up against one another on a race track and it's bye, bye to the lower spec **** box on the road it's a totally different story.
Which is why I have a WRX Wagon PPP with AP 4pots for the road and an STI Type R for track / weekend fun, I also have an Isuzu Trooper 3.1D swb and VW T4 Transporter syncro crew cab pick up, nothing to do with money it's all about suitability for the task each one performs in my life.

As you said M3 has far better brakes and handling capabilities! If you spend the same £££ on a 330 or 335 and the same on a M3 on extras the M3 would still be far superior and worth more money!

If you want power, speed and excitement go out and buy a bloody sports bike. Ive got a 900cc fireblade n tbh it pretty much eats most things on the road with no trouble at all. On the same length of road at my work place my blade can reach ***mph however my wrx could only reach 70 odd mph. Ive always said it but we buy wrxs, sti's to suit our own needs n no one elses. If people wanna have a vehicle thats fun fast n kills most cars then go buy some 1000cc bike. Problem solved
