had a half hearted look at buying one last year but need to finish my wagon first; M3 CS FTW

It's kinda the run out model...traction control and a few other toys of the CSL make it the one to go for

I loved my M3 I had both the E36 and E46, there a proper drivers car and with a full system they sound so good.
Quite expensive on servicing and rear tyres, I had Manuel in both.
They do feel like quite a heavy car but I think that's also to do with the quality parts and build of the German machine.

I owned an E46 M3 for about 6 months as a daily and sold it on.

yes they are a classy car and nice to sit in but heavy, you really need to work them to get the best from them and not as quick as made out to be untill you get into 3 figures so very easy to loose your license in one!

Manual gearbox is more relaible but the 6 speed getrag its a heavy clunky box and not the nicest to use...all in all they need the open road and if u spend alot of time commuting i wouldnt bother.

I got sick of it and bought a comfy daily and another scooby for the weekends.

fantastic on the twisties or track or motorway. not the fastest in a straight line.

One of the best allrounders out there BUT they have their fair share of problems and when i say fair share i mean quite a lot i wouldnt go back to one now which is a shame as they are brilliant at most things.

Ive had two in the past.

Best looking for an 04 onwards and buy on condition.

Boot floor will go at some point so check this better to buy one that been done with documented paperwork to back it up.

Headgaskets are getting quite a common theme now too as there approaching 100k miles will cost £1200 and upwards from a good indy.

Pistons are known to crack also maybe not as common as the HG but ive seen a few go and the reason why i got rid of my last one.

Rust drivers side front arch and drivers wing mirror check around these places
first.

Smg pumps can go but pumps can be had second hand / reconditioned for half the price of new up to you which way to go.

Check discs as they tend to wear quickly and a full set costs around 6/700 with pads ( there rubbish too really )

Makesure its had its running in service in the book @ 1200 mile.

Budget tyres are a no go usually a telling sign that the owner hasn't been looking after it.

Think theres more but not of the top of my head at the moment..
