That's very impressive for a vf43 turbo.

What type of dyno did you get the figures from?

There are things you've been told that don't add up, but let's take one thing at a time.

436/390 MDX321T GT Spec headers/Harvey up-pipe 1.6 bar There was a slight dip in the torque curve due to a small bit of clutch slip.

made 353.9bhp and 365ftLbs on rcm dyno

same car and same mods apart from headers made 333.6 bhp and 345 ftLbson rcm dyno

both mapped by duncan

Going for a re map this sat after going making the turbo rotated turbo kit, more efficient straight inlet and no blowing exhasut mani so will see what it can do and if the torque increases. Cheers
im really tempted to go vf43 on my 2.1 stroker with jdm big port heads when its built, run it for a few months until i can afford the gt28 i want

vf48's give around the same dont they?

All figures and mapping was done by Martyn @ Enginetuner.
He can verify everything.

id rather mine be 360/380 than 414/335

its not laggy and its certainly not sluggish but feels very poor compared to my evo which was 406/401

I had 404hp and 350lbft then changed headers and intercooler brought it all together. I changed mapper which made a huge difference

If you want more mid range torque tubular headers do the trick, but once you start modifying it doesn't stop I'm already 5 figures in the last year engine turbo still need more toys lol

I've known Dastek rollers not to give the same kind of Torque figures that Dyno Dynamics rollers give.

It would be helpful if we could see your power graphs and your boost plot.

What newage have you got? Bugeye or later? UK presumably?

What did the mapper actually say to you..... hold back doesn't mean much. Was it not taking ignition as expected at peak torque, slow to spool (it appears to be taking boost), down on airflow, lower det threshold as expected??

This is the kind of feedback I'd be looking for to help determine any issue. However.... not all set-ups and engines are the same. Some produce better figures than others.

Personally I'd be inclined to get it on a Dyno Dynamics RR to ensure we're talking apples and apples.

The mapper said there is no issues at all, he mentioned dastek do seem to be lower on torque figures and to expect around 350. I've got a v9 widetrack. Absolutely no issues on driving ability it's fine just wondered y ppl are getting around 400 and mines less than 350. He did say the turbo won't do any more even if headers are added so he said to swap turbo if I was to add headers

I doubt the turbo is causing it to "hold back"..... it's making over 400bhp isn't it!? I think you said previously it's making 1.5bar of boost (I'm assuming this is peak boost, which is just before peak torque), which is not insignificant.

If you were looking for 350lbft and it made just under 340lbft, don't sweat it - that really isn't much of a difference. Take it on a Dyno Dynamics RR and you'll get that back.

My widetrack (JDM) makes over 440lbft on VPower, but you're talking apples and oranges against your spec. Just like you are with everyone else's comparisons. Someone else with the same spec as you, would be a fairer comparison.

Peak figures mean ****. It's the WHOLE area under the curve that counts.

+10-15lbft of extra peak torque will not make any difference whatsoever in your car or it's performance.

You may have misunderstood him (I hope!).

Headers are pretty renowned for being a way to extract better torque. This is one of the reasons why the JDM Newages produce such great torque figures, which is a lot to do with the equal length headers they use.

Increases can be gained by porting the standard cast UK headers, as well as replacing them completely. At your level, porting would probably be a good option. This has been done to death and is a well proven modification.

I was expecting 370-380 lb/ft. He knew I was disappointed hence stating dastek under estimates torque so I would expect it to be nearer 350 on a different RR. I think he basically said he didn't rate the turbo and it wouldnt make much more with it.

And the holding back I was talking it about was referring to when I first had it mapped and it made 385/318. He said he'd cured that by fitting a new back plate on the turbo due to it being slack and not staying shut under boost. He then re-did the map and it made 414/338 and said everything was spot on. I do trust GR i was just confused to y it didn't make around the 370 mark :/

You're hitting 1.5bar and the turbo obviously flows enough air at the top end for over 400bhp. Your low torque is not because of your turbo imo.

Either get your cast headers and up-pipe ported, or junk them and get some tubular headers. This will not be a wasted exercise and if you were to go for a different turbo (i.e. increased flow rate) you'd really need to sort the headers out in any case.

Yes that's what Gaz said. Do both or leave it as it is basically.

Thanks for the input pal, it's been helpful

Evening all.
Had the car mapped today by Martyn j @ Enginetuner with the DIY roatated set up, the tubular headers I have are holding it back but thought you maybe interested in the torque etc. Still a standard 2.0 Sti engine/92k on clock.
Cheers
