It depends on the temperature of the water. In cold water, the bacterial action that causes a body to bloat with gas may be so slowed that the body stays on the seabed. The skin will absorb water and peel away from the underlying tissues in about a week and fish, crabs and sea lice will nibble away at the flesh. Cold water also encourages the formation of adipocere. This is a waxy, soapy substance formed from the fat in the body that partially protects the body against decomposition. Bodies have been retrieved almost completely intact from waters below 7°C after several weeks, and as recognisable skeletons after five years.
In tropical waters such as the Arabian sea, it’s a different story. Even a weighted body will normally float to the surface after three or four days, exposing it to sea birds and buffeting from the waves. Putrefaction and scavenging creatures will dismember the corpse in a week or two and the bones will sink to the seabed. There they may be slowly buried by marine silt or broken down further over months or years, depending on the acidity of the water.

No idea. Maybe they inside a chunk aircraft that's disappeared to the ocean bed

Appalling way of going about things.
That there is a huge amount of interest behind this. You would probably not want a microphone shoved in your face by a reporter saying "how do you feel your relative has died" before you even know. Certainly that would appear inconsiderate if you were not then able to verify the press news.

So it may have been agreed that prior to any news like this the best way to disseminate the information to a large amount of people (relatives) is via text. Certainly that way they can push the button and get the message out almost instantly and ahead of any press knowing and you finding out any other way.

Think I'd rather be told either face to face or at least via a proper phone call.

That the Chinese relatives were told via a text message written in English is even more appalling, IMO.

On the face of it, it would see that it simply flew until it ran out of fuel

Slightly spooky to know that at some point it must have past the "point of no return" - doomed to land/crash into the sea

....well there is certainly no 'credible' evidence that this thing has flown anywhere near where they are leading us to believe it has crashed!

A complete hoax/cover-up.

The plane was full electronic warfare experts (well nearly, they were Chinese artist)

The plane was hijacked by the mercans and flown to The secret (it is not secret) US base at Diego Garcia

Where the electronic warfare experts (artists) were interrogated

Then the plane was then dumped in a bin at the back of the bases Macdonalds restaurant

Plane shaped confetti was then sprinkled over the Indian ocean

This mystery seems to be coming to an appalling end. I hope for the relatives to take all this with their utmost strength.

That's the only hope.

I watch with fascination over what happens next........You couldn't make it up!

Here's the prediction:- Nothing of the wreckage is found and it ends up being one of those "unsolved" mysteries, triggering a number of conspiracy theory books and a few documentaries.

So much info has been stated as fact then later proved as incorrect.
The thing that worries me the most is the family problems the Capt was having and if this turns out to be true I think the finger will point at him.

But I wonder if we will ever really find out for sure - only if they find the CVR - then perhaps..

The texts were a last resort having failed to contact some families direct or by phone call, during a certain timeframe before going public.

Its almost as if people want to believe that a blanket text message was the only form of communication used.

And a Hollywood movie starring Tom Cruise wheret he only American on the plane saves the day because every other nationality on the plane is a braindead foreigner/evil crime baron

On a more serious note it was good to see the media listening to the Malaysian PM's request to leave the families of the passengers alone after the news of yesterday by hounding, and in some cases provoking, each and every one of them to get that picture of 'angusih' for their sh1tty rags. They all need to be stuck on planes and have them crash into the sea frankly, that would be no loss whatsoever to the planet!

I heard the Malaysian Airline chief on R4 this morning. He was so calm and balanced with his answers. Quite the opposite to the missing/crashed people's relatives. He sounded genuine, and I don't mean to say that he should have flapped restlessly about all over the place, but the contrast was very noticeable. He was asked if he'd resign over this incident. he answered- "It will be a personal decision". Upon asking when it would be thought about, he answered- "Later. We have things to do right now." They weren't the exact words, but that's what they meant.

Video of his interview can be found here, which would have been on the BBC news, anyway >http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-26728045

I also heard James Wood on R4; the brother to the IBM man Phil Wood, who was one of the passengers on that plane. He was calm, but his pain could be felt in his words. He said that some evidence is essential to back up the crash claim so that the relatives can process this new information in their brains. I totally agree with him, and hope the search results into some evidence.

Further satellite pictures show 122 objects in area. No evidence that they actually came from the plane.

How far in water does the black box beep travel?

"How far in water does the black box beep travel?"

not so much a question of how far, more like for how long

I'm sure when the plane first went missing 30 days was stated..

The problem is that, even if the voice recorder and data recorders are found, they could turn out to be useless in understanding what caused the aircraft to deviate from its planned route. The CVR only records the last two hours of the flight, and the ADR around five hours. It looks like the aircraft flew for about six hours after it went off course. It's tragic for the families, but the reasons for what happened my never be known. However, I imagine that Authorities will make a number of recommendations to make sure that aircraft are easier to track and locate and that recorders can record at least the full duration of a flight.

So an identical plane has been there for 6 months? consipracy nuts honey lol

thing i dont get is they have now said its crashed in the indian ocean, considering they said it could have gone north or south how on earth do they know?

From what i understand the spotted debris is in an ara of known regular bad weather, in a shipping lane where ships are pretty free saying they loose cargo in bad weather.

realy does strike me as they have little info and are being forced into making announcments.
