Silicone inlet hose

The std inlet hose which goes underneath the inlet manifold to the turbo on my 99-00 Impreza looks quite restrictive for flow and so have been thnking about replacing it with a better alternative.
The silicone inlet hoses you can buy, like the one above, are these any better for air flow? or are they just a sort of dress up lookey likey thing similar to the other silicone hose kits you can buy for the rest of the intake system?
Anyone had improvements in power on their engine with one of these fitted? It looks like it would still be *squashed* under the manifold and hence restrictive like the original. If you think it's a good thing to change, are they all much of a muchness, or is there any you can recommend?
Any feedback, good or bad is appreciated.

I could fit a SAMCO Inlet pipe from a MY01 to my MY99.
The first hose on the pipe we had to close and the last whole before the turbo was a little bit tricky to fit but possible as we reversed the aluminium connector.
Now you could hear the turbo more surging and I guess that there is really an improvement in low throttle response.
The hose was long enough but I am using a APS Intake as well.

So.... they appear to help response and will probably need the map tweaked to see any difference.....hmmm.
Anyone else had experience with these things?

It is possible to fit without removing the inlet manifold provided you are prepared to skin you knuckles and cut the original hose up to remove it.
I have heard adverse reports of the Samco hose collapsing at high revs / boost due to the restriction of the air filter causing a pressure drop. This is obviously the opposite of what you would be aiming for!. Others vendors don't seem to have this problem.

My thinking behind the silicone hose being *squashed* when fitted, is a concern, if there are some reports on the hose collapsing at high revs/boost, whereas the std unit is at least a hard plastic, albeit restrictive.

The hose doesn't get squashed, don't worry about that.
The one I had was a perfect fit.
It is not totally round, its one side is slightly 'flattened'.
I fitted it without removing the inlet manifold. It is HARD work - don't do it yourself. It is not just a matter of taking off the old pipe - you have to cut/saw off fuel brackets in ridiculously hard to reach places.
