SPECS Cameras on the M6
I think this was on here a while back, but the e-mail is doing the rounds again :-
Any truth in this?

Subject: Changes on the M6, M56, M60 & M62
Dear all,
As the M6 is probably the main route for BIL inter-office travel, I thought
the
following would be of interest.
A new camera system has gone live on much of the M6 South of Preston, and
is also
going live on the M56, M60, and M62. The system, called "SPECS" is a
continuous
speed trap, which will ultimately cover most of the above motorways. It
uses a
large number of cameras which work in groups of up to four. Installed at
intervals,
the cameras record every vehicle front numberplate as it passes, and stores
this
with a precise timestamp. The times are checked after the car passes the
last
(fourth) camera, and the average speeds between all cameras calculated. If
any
speed is above 78MPH an automatic speeding ticket is generated. It is not
possible
to see which cameras form a "set", and the cameras work 24/7. The system is
managed
by a private company without Police involvement.

Well SPECS cameras do exist, but the rest of it was a hoax the last time it came round. Can't remeber the URL to the bods that make SPECS, but they denied this last time it came up, I'll see if I can track it down.

Looks like it is a SCAM again... http://www.speedcheck.co.uk/map.htm
That's where they are currently installed - Nottingham there's a surprise, first on every scam going, M62 Roadwords only, Thelwell Viaduct area, Northants, Gloucs and some of the M25. That's it
