Cambs/Lincs evo meet (25.03)

It's a shame you didn't post something in this forum to tell us about it - we could have had another half dozen Imprezas to join you!
Let us in on the next one
Speaking of which - fancying coming along to our Cambridgeshire (West side of) run next month? Details in this forum somewhere...
Glad you had a good time and the Porker was ok
Cheers

"Great day was had by all as well as a couple of hairy moments" - there's going to be a fatal on one of these drives soon, God forbid, - close to it on the Fleet meet recently and some close shaves on a local meet - it won't be grinning from ear to ear then....and it will be really good headlines for the tabloids - "group of high powered Subaru/Mitsubishi/whatever owners racing on the roads"

...and of course, every time another one gets wrecked, you'll all be bleating "oh those robbing insurance companies, why are my premiums so much winge winge"

Witnessed two separate Impreza drivers on a local meet nearly cause head on collisions because they couldn't wait two seconds to swerve out and overtake - and they were doing 80 + on a minor road.
Thanks, but I don't want to be part of that sort of driving or even associated with it by driving the same sort of car.

Yeah right
Just one of the quotes from the EVO thread.....
"Underpants a bit stained after an off-road excursion at around the ton on one of those ferociously bumpy straight roads. As Dr. Frank'n'Furter would say, it was just a jump to the left, a step to the right.....
Fortunately just the left side wheels on the grass, but a bit of a scare nonetheless. I have to admit I don't normally drive that fast on public roads. Especially not subsided ones like those fen roads!"
I needn't go on, need I?
I live in a village where two people, one of them my neighbour, have been killed in RTA's in the last year - both by other drivers driving too fast for the conditions.
Think on.

I have a confession... Peter964 and I were driving along the fen road about 65mph... admittedly 5mph over the speed limit. I didnt see the bump at all... (straight roads hide bumps very well) and my firmly sprung Elise bounced to the left, then to the right. Peters 964 doing the same. It was not excessive speed, just a badly placed bump in the road. The other cars went over it no probs.. Sorry... it was a bit vague. Hope that helps.
btw... in villages, we did 25mph. Sometimes less. Speed kills....

Have to say Dave T-S is right on this one (though maybe not with that example, it seems). I've been to two Scoob meets in the Midlands, where the speeds were just plan insane - 110mph+ on straight B-roads is mad, going round blind corners at 70mph is stupid. Just because the car is physically capable of taking a corner at that speed doesn't mean it's safe to do so - indeed with our cars being so capable it very often isn't safe. I don't go to Midlands 'drive-arounds' any more because of this.
Grahame May and I are organising the short drive-around (about 2x30mins driving) in a few weeks time NOT as a 'who can get there quickest', but as a pleasantly quick drive on some great, open, good visibility roads. We will give very short shrift to anyone who abuses this and does silly speeds and in any way endangers the life of others by going too fast for the conditions (i.e. 65mph on a bumpy back road). It mustn't get in the way of sensible driving along great roads.
I hope you'll come along to our meeting next month, Dave (and Carolyn) and see that it is possible to drive sensibly and still have an enjoyable afternoon - after all, for me it's as much about meeting up with people I know and enjoying a good pub lunch as actually doing the driving.
Hopefully this is also a message to anyone intending to come along next month and drive like a maniac - please don't bother.
All that said, it should be a really good late morning / early afternoon's safe driving enjoyment with nice people and even nicer food Common sense is the name of the game.
