99uk turbo running rich
hi just had the 99 turbo uk spec scoob in for its mot and the bloke told me it was running very rich any ideas why? the car is standard apart fom a decat center section and a dump valve.
i had a problem with the car when it was on tick over a few months ago, it would rev itself up. i cleaned the maf sensor and that sorted it could it be anything to do with that?
any1 any ideas
cheers

lambda sensor knackered.
Buy a 3-wire universal from www.gendan.co.uk
http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_O23WIRE.html
You may find if you do an ECU diagnostic check that it will flag the lambda as the fault. Code 32.
As you cleaned your MAF and that sorted something out, You may find (as does happen) that the ECU has tried to be inteligent and caused the MAF and Lambda readings to play off on one another and compensate each other as they start to fail.
Then when you fit a new lambda that the MAF then throws a fault, code 23.

VTA dump valves are well documented as messing up idle, causing rich running and destroying mafs!!
Do a search, there are loads of pages on this already. The standard recirculating one is the best option for the car.
A VTA is only useful if you want a noise or if you are running HUGE power. Nothing wrong with that if you want the noise but bear in mind the effects it will have on the running of the car.
As far as carb cleaner goes I have no idea but I would have thought it would be ok.

How can a vta destroy a maf when the maf has already measured the air and passed it on through to the turbo, then the intercooler and then finally the vta?.... vta will allow the engine to run rich because the calculated air flow thats passed through the maf determines the ammount of fuel is injected,as the vta dumps some measured air the air fuel ratio has been altered to being overly rich...... cant see a vta having any affect whats so ever on a maf.......

Yes you are right rigga. Alcohol and posting - not good!
Was getting mixed up with vta and induction. Most people who fit vta seem to fit induction kits aswell in the belief that they will enhance the car but both can have adverse effects on the running. Induction kits, not vta can cause maf problems.

That is the best way makes it more entertaining. Especially the day after when you read your goofs from your drunken waffle
