Choice of service/repair

Choice of service/repair
I think most of us know that you would be nuts to have your car serviced at a franchised dealer if there was a Subaru specialist available, but could this be coming to an end? Another example of control and restricted practices.
Subject: Getting your car repaired in future - you may not be able to use your local garage or your local man
Are you aware of the EU initiative coming into play in 2010 which will stop you being able to use your local garage or the guy who services your car?
Right to repair
There was a report on the radio last week that was discussing the above. There is a loophole which will allow the franchised dealers to restrict access to technical information needed by your garage to repair your car. The effect of this on the independent repair industry is that inevitably there will be fewer vehicles that they are able to repair and if the vehicle assemblers succeed in their aims the independents will be fewer if any exist at all. The effect on the consumer will be the reduction of choice on where the vehicle is repaired and an increase in cost of repair.
There are far fewer franchised dealers across the UK than independent repairers and it will cost you almost double (if not more) to use them
You may have to travel miles to have your car repaired
