just how bad is piston slap?
as per the title really...
i know my scooby has a small amount of piston slap mainly audible when cold.
also been told by many sources that its fairly common in classics.
whats your opinions/experiences?

It's a feature of the cars with forged pistons (e.g. classic STis, others that have their engines rebuilt etc.) and from having such cars for the past 10 years all I can say it hasn't caused any issues. I just make sure I warm the engine gently.

I have piston slap on MY99 V5 its normal especially when cold. It usualy goes after 30 seconds or so but I always let her warm up to.
I've noticed after long runs that after taking key out and waiting for timer to stop engine i'm getting a noise but i've been told its just the noise of exhaust coolind down?

i just had mine rebuilt 600miles ago and shat myself when it started making that noise but you have taken a waight off my mind it never did it when i had a wrx block but now ive got a stronger sti 1 :-) sounds like a tracktor in the morning glad im not the only 1
