Broken alarm fob - any suggestions?
My second alarm fob has now broken (see pic) but I believe they cost an arm and a leg to replace from Subaru although I haven't looked yet.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to a solution other than giving Subaru parts of my anatomy?
Cheers
Sal

One of mine's stopped working - little red light comes on, batteries are fine but just doesnt 'do' anything. Does anyone know of a company that will replace/recode it? The alarm people around york dont seem to....

Mike Have you tried Rick at RE Motorsport Subaru Dealer, Subura Imports, Subaru Specialist to recode it?

As above: carefully drill a 2.5mm hole in an area of the fob where there are no electronics underneath and feed through a keyring (might want to get a man to do this <ducks> ).
Sal, how are you attaching the fob to rest of the keys?
I find most fobs break because it has a load of other keys on the same ring. which puts leverage forces and wears the plastic fob. What makes them last "much" longer is get two small key rings, daisy chain them and then attach one end to the key fob, and the other to the main set of keys. That way the key fob moves and rubs independantly to main bunch of keys so less likely to get broken.
Alternatively get a Toad alarm - their fobs are almost indestructable

I've looked into the drilling idea but surely this will make it no longer resistant to water? Where is a good place to drill? I could take it apart but don't want to break it
I've just rung a Subaru dealer and they want £37.50 inc VAT for the fob plus £46.00 inc VAT for coding

there are pouches you can buy to place your key fob in and then attach a keyring to the hole thats in the pouch job done theres a couple on ebay but there for a bmw but at 10-16 quid be cheaper than a new fob plus i couldnt actually see a bmw logo on them.
