500bhp - Newage? How drivable? + Possible from an MD321T or only a V?
Hi Guys
Ok looking at my next stage of mods. I want a track car that can be used everyday.
I need it to be drivable and i think 500 in a newage is the sort of limit before you've got to learn to drive again due to all 4 wheels spinning and the need to use more than one lane due to the snaking.
i will be getting an MD321T soon, and was just wondering if anyone has made it hit the 500 figure? and if so what mods? or is the 321v only able to hit 500?
how laggy is the v compared to the t as that'll be a major issue with it being used on the road aswell. how close to 500 can the md321t get? 470ish piossible?
just wanting to hear from peoples experiences for the perfect all round car.
Cheers

tbh it hink you'd be better waiting till it does then do the rest. will save you money in long run by having the right kit in one go.
also have a look at some of the billet turbo's, they seem to be outperforming the 321's

whats the equivalent billet turbo to the 321t? never looked into the billet turbos.
p.s. just for experimental purposes i'm going to use syvecs and standard engine and see how long it holds out for at as close to 500 as i can get.

From what iv been looking at, you can achive a safeish 450bhp...(been told this is the safest limit for the engine) with the following bits...
Good turbo
fmic
exhaust and decat
new headers
injectors
air intake
fuel pump
remap to set it all up
Plus youll want to consider a brake upgrade along with suspension and other supporting mods to make the most of the power.

450 may be pushing it too far on standard engine, or you may get away with it.
as far as billets i think its the sc54 thats about right, although there's loads of different ones and a slightly smaller but faster sppoling one might be a better one for the application

cheers tidgy. i'll have a browse on their website and have read through them. if you have any good links on them, let me know
i know i'll be pushing it on standard engine, but i wanna have a go, i know banny is rotated gt30 on standard engine with syvecs (522bhp). if it goes bang, i'll get the stroker built.
apart from the engine not handling it, whats drivability like as an everydya car at this power level?

oops sorry forgot to add the link i copied lol
https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.p...4&postcount=16
thing is though if you want more than that then you'll need a bigger turbo, also 2.1 and 2.0 are different applications turbo wise. Further more depending on how fa ryou wanna go might be 2.3 CD build might be better.

lol ive still got my first plan in mind with the rotated gt35 kosta, its just i want to use it on the road, and ive heard that'll just make it a drag car and too laggy.
just interested to see what the comprimise can be. if i dont like it on the standard engine or its not what i expected. when it goes pop, at rebuild time i can just go back to my original plan. of 2.1 and rotated 35r.

i hate this word laggy it means F**c all exept your in the wrong gear its just a word thats crept into subaru speak tha same as Raw that is used to explain that classics dont handle as well as newages ( In stock form)
we have a 600 hp car that has a rotated set up, uses pump gas (V power no additives)
and is very drivable fast but drivable, Laggy??? lol

badbird: whats drivability like on the road? is the car used everyday? is it hard to control? when i say that, can you overtake a bus easily or end up understeering or oversteering into a bush?

every day go to work car not a show queen that gets polished to death, car is for sale on PH just to make way for another project, but the spec is there,
its very drivable its prety quiet, its comfortable as stock new ages are,
it dont have loads of guages just a combo oil temp and presure guage, why do you need a boost guage? push the pedal and it does a fair impersonation of a starship... but its never undrivable but it is 600 /540 so if its driven stupidly it will bite and bite hard, if you overtake the bus on an average high st using full boost you will probably end up killing someone,
if you overtake the bus in a normal way it handles quiet normal its not a switch thats on or off it dosent need 3k rpm to pull away slipping the clutch we also have a 640/550 evo V111 and that is a pig compared to the scooby

i dont know anything about the s206 just heard it doesnt tend to make as much torque as some other turbos?
spoken to alan jeffery and they haev shown me a dyno sheet of a spec they have built recently which is around 550bhp on a rotated 35r on a bugeye sti i.e. my car.
also got a quote for a build to the same spec, i'll post the graph up later. i guess i'll stick to getting this done.
edit: found the dyno sheet

if you can afford to do it youd be crazy to do anything else, with a rotated set up you will never be limited by your turbo when your bored with the 35 just fit a 40..
when you get your quote pm me
i know this isnt cheap to get done, maybe you can afford my car for not much more money

may be prepared to deal.
as you can see this car has been worked on by the best a no expence spared build the heads alone were over 3k

Whilst not quite the 500 you're looking for, our project cars at 430 on our DD rollers at present at 1.65 bar, with the following mods on standard STI 2003 engine
Turbo Dynamics MD555 450 turbo
Harveys HDI FMIC
Power Enterprise Injectors
Induction
3" exhaust wrapped
walbro pump
Our custom remap
Turbosmart 3 port boost solenoid
RCM Wrapped headers and uppipe
Makes for a very good daily driver at the mo. Next plan is a forged build and larger version of the MD555 (which we've impressed with its spool up) and push on past 500bhp.

My MD321t made 464bhp on Zen Performances conservative Dastek Dyno on V- Power on a fully forged 2.5. I have been keeping an eye on the Scooby Clinic Billet topic and while the results for the rotated turbo's have been excellent I haven't seen much evidence of the standard position turbo's out performing the MD321 series.

hi mine made 453 bhp and 460ftb on one off scoobyclinics new sc46 turbos at 1.5 bar on just v-power was told it would do 500 with a 10% meth mix but the bottem end wont take it as its a 2.5

eggy,i think you have the impression that when you hit 500bhp that you will need to strap yourself to the floor and pray for your life.if and when you do hit the 500 mark then you will see that its just the same to drive as when you were at 400bhp.yes with more power comes more responsability and you need to watch what you are doing as you are covering a lot more ground a lot quicker.even at 650bhp i drive my car to the shops, down the gym and even to the coast and its just as civilised as my clio 182.the only time i have had it snaking all over the place is at elvington the other weekend, but as you know the weather was a little wet to say the least.

lol u'll be the best person to speak to as my plan is to have the same setup
bigarf: i guess your right, maybe im expecting too much? maybe its a lot better with 4wd. the last big bhp car i drove was a civic turbo and that was just not drivable, too much torque steer. thanks for the input though, puts light on things, just got to be sensivle.
anyways im off home, long day at work.
