November Show n Shine Winners!
Congratulations to Pavan Pujji for winning our November show n shine! After having purchased his VW Golf just over four months ago, Pavan has already set about making several neat modifications. However, the biggest thing that has bugged Pavan about the look of the car has been the condition of the bodywork. Not that you can easily tell from the before pictures below, but the car is actually metallic black! The previous owner must have either washed the car on a regular basis at a commercial car wash, or decided it was a good idea to clean it with wire wool, because either way the swirl marks were really bad, and the abundance of scratches and scuffs on most of the panels further confirms that it's had a hard life. However, Pavan was up for the challenge of restoring it, and as the after pictures below show, he's done a blinding job!
After washing the car thoroughly using the two bucket method and Poorboy's Slick & Suds Shampoo, Pavan clayed the bodywork carefully using Meguiars Quik Clay, in order to remove any bonded surface contaminants. The correction of the paint defects was then achieved using a Porter Cable 7424 dual action polisher and a two stage polishing process. The defects were initially cut out using Blackfire SRC Compound and a yellow Sonus SFX cutting pad, and the finish was then refined using Blackfire Finishing Polish and a white Sonus SFX polishing pad. With the correction complete, Pavan further refined the finish by glazing the bodywork with Clearkote Vanilla Moose Glaze and a blue Sonus SFX finishing pad, and then sealed the finish with a protective coat of P21S Carnauba Wax. The alloys were then sealed with Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, and the tyres dressed with Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel. Pavan finished off the job by cleaning and dressing the interior with a selection of products from Meguiars and Autoglym.
A big well done also to Tom Pinney, for coming a very close second - once again I had a really hard time picking the winner this month, as Tom's work on this S3 was also superb. In the end, the only thing that seperated these two entries was a slightly better range of before and after pics from Pavan, but these two after pics from Tom are crackers...
