I use muc-off from Halfords (in the bike section) and a cheap washing up / pot brush from Wilkinsons, only about a quid, bristles are pretty soft. Does a good job with no aggressive chemicals in it to spoil the paint.
When they're clean give them a good waxing, makes it easier next time.

I've used T-cut on my alloys before - seems to clean them up nicely...

Universal degreaser works on wheels brilliantly and better than any wheel cleaner I've used

Combination of T-cut, fine grade scotch-brite pad for ingrained metal particals, car polish then wax

You have to be careful with some "alloy wheel cleaner". Many are acid based designed for non-laquered wheels. Most wheels are laquered, if the cleaner gets under the laquer via a scuff or chip and it'll react with the bare alloy underneath, eventually causing the laquer to peel off, go milky and look alwful.

If it fizzes when sprayed on bare aluminium and your wheels are laquered, don't use it.

You need to get them clean, put a coat of Jeffs Werkstatt Prime Strong followed by a few coats of Poorboys wheel sealant. After that you'll only need soapy water to wash them and shouldn't need to use any wheel cleaner. Have a look on Car Care - The finest products, the best advice - Polished Bliss

I've done this to my wife's car and my wheels on my Impreza.

Andy.

Menzerna Gel 7.5 and Meguiars Ultra Safe Wheel Spoke Brush for regular cleaning, and as above with regard to Jeffs Prime Strong and Poorboy's Wheel Sealant for protection (which then makes it ten times easier to keep them clean). All of this is available as kits on the site - see these links...

Basic Wheel Kit

Advanced Wheel Kit
