Default in need of a good polish

I have an old imported scooby, which on the whole is in good nick. It is metalic black with the metalic particles being red. What would be the best polish to use on it please as at the minute I use Auto glym but on this car it swirls and looks a mess.

And what glass cleaner would you guys recomend.

Thanks.

Well you have nice metallic flakes, and it would be nice to get them to shine. You also have black paint, which I love when it looks wet (others like it to be cool & crisp). There are so many options, so to help you decide what look you'd like, have a read of this guide by polished bliss:
https://www.scoobynet.com/car-care-3...lid-black.html

Also, if you're not sure of the difference between a polish, glaze and wax, have a look at more polished bliss guides here:
https://www.scoobynet.com/car-care-3...re-guides.html

Then let us know what you'd like, and we'll try and help.

Hi, thanks for that. I like the look of the type R and 350 Z.

They were done with Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection, which is a sealant, aimed at producing a wet finish. Quite a few people here have had good success with it (if you search this forum for 'Blackfire' you will find quite a few examples).

I also prefer the look of those photos than the ones of the jag, but that can be misleading, as things look different in real life. Those pictures also benefit from perfectly prepared paint, and having just re-read you first post, I see you're not ready for the wax/sealant yet.

What did you mean by
"at the minute I use Auto glym but on this car it swirls and looks a mess."
I assume your car is covered in swirls? Before you're going to get a finish close to those in the PB thread, you need to remove or hide the swirls in your paint. They can be removed by using a polish, to lightly cut your clear coat. They can be hidden, by filling them with a glaze. You can get a better look by removing them, and they only need to be removed once (you just have to try hard not to create more), but it's more work to do, and it does take away some of your clear coat (which can be done safely, just not every week). Filling them with a glaze is easier, but it will need re-doing every time you clay your car (there's another topic ).

What autoglym are you using?

It's super resign polish.

But I have recently bought Meguires Deep Crystal system Nos 2 and 3 carnauba wax. I was in a hurry to polish it befor Sunday so only used number three the wax. Looked nice though unfortunate about the rain on Sunday morning spoiling everything, looked like it hadn't been washed for months when I got to the show.!

Do you know where to buy those micro fibre cloths from?

I've used the AG SRP and Megs no.s 2 & 3. I think the AG SRP is very good. If you use that before the wax, you'll get much better results. Did you find that the SRP wasn't working well for you? How were you applying it, and buffing it?

You can get microfibre cloths anywhere. Halfords, Polished Bliss, and several other good online traders (Elite Car Care Clean Your Car - Clean and Shiney and if you go with good brands, you can get good bulk packs of cloths and towel on ebay.

i've just bought a load of menzerna stuff from polished bliss. cracking stuff. for best results see if you can borrow a porta cable or similar random orbit polisher. will be much easiler than polishing by hand and you get a much better result.

even better still, get a detailer to correct the paint and then maintain it following the guides on the polished bliss site

Did it a couple of weeks ago with the AG and last weekend with No3, applied and worked off by hand. Looked pretty good it was the first time I have used No3. Need to spend the time and do a propper job.

The last time using AG I couldnt get all the residue off the car so it didnt look good.

Do you think Blackfire is better than AG and Meg No3..?

Megs no.3 works, but it's quite cheap, and isn't considered to be anywhere near as good as it's rivals - although it's rivals are more than double the price.
The Blackfire carnuba wax is good, but it's £50 (so it's no surprise that it's a lot better than the megs step 3). There are a lot of choices, but given that you mostly liked the pics of the type r, and 350z, you could start with a sealant, like the Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection (£22). You can always try a wax on top at a later date.

It would be worth you trying the AG SRP again, and buffing off before it's dry. If you can't get it off easily, you could try some QD to help.

The Blackfire product that is closest to the AG SRP is the Gloss Enhancing Polish, which I have not tried. The product that Polished Bliss recommended me for removing swirls was the Menzerna Intensive Polish, and the Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze for hiding those that aren't removed. I don't have anything to compare those with, except the AG and megs, but Menzerna products have a good reputation.

So in summary - have another go with the AG SRP
If you don't like it, you could try the menzerna products
Then, when you are sure the preparation is good, put a couple of coats of Blackfire AFPP on.
See what you think of the finish.

Thanks for your help. I will give AG and Megs 3 another go but with mechanical buffer and see what the difference is like. I will try buffing soon after applying too.

Try wiping the majority of the residue off with one side of a towel, and then buffing the remainder with a clean side. And as I said above, use a little QD if the last bit is stubborn. You may need to buff off after doing a couple of panels, just experiment a little.
