Default White Gloss Paint on my Blue Impreza

Guys,

Managed to find a road covered in white domestic gloss paint last night. Drove through it as slow as possible and most of the paint has ended up on the plastic wheel arch liners and the mudflaps, but a small amount has made it onto the bodywork.

The paint hasn't hardened yet, so how do i get it off? I tried a bit of turps (Kerosene) on the wheel arch liners which seems to work but am wary of putting on the blue paint incase it strips that off the car too!!

Any ideas will be gratefully received.

Try agitating the areas on the paint with some APC diluted 2:1 first to see if that shifts it. If your car is well waxed the paint stuck to it might shift easier. Failing that try some tar & glue remover and failing that try claying. If that fails come back and tell us but dont use white spirits please

By the time I got back from work the paint had set a little harder but hadn't attached itself to the car very well. It had only done 100 miles since it's last coat of Werkstatt Acrylic, which may have helped.

So I clayed it using Meg's quick clay kit which worked on all the smaller spots. However the clay smeared the bigger blobs as they hadn't set quite as hard. I had found out that some tar and bug removers are Kerosene based, so tried the Kerosene on some out of sight paint and it had no bad effects at all. A small dab of Kerosene on a Microfibre cloth then cleared up the remaining smears.

A good wash down with a strong mix of Poorboys Soap and Suds removed the oily residue left by the Kerosene and the white gloss was all gone.

The clay left some marring so a quick polish and a fresh coat of Werkstatt Acrylic and what could have been a nightmare now looks as good as new.

Not done the wheelarches or mudflaps yet as I ran out of time, but I can unbolt the flaps and the arch liners and go nuts with the Kerosene away from the rest of the car.

Hopefully this info may be of use to others, but it's worth mentioning that the Kerosene was fine on my paint, it will be worth checking on a small area first just in case other paint is not so happy.
