Default Wonder Wheels

Safe on Scooby alloys? Need something serious to get the winter muck off the rims but don't want to damage them any....

Safe on the standard powder coated scoob wheels in my experience (in the past!) but when its run out I'd try something different
Not recommended for polished rims....

I'd tend to stay away from Wonder Wheels. If your wheels are really that bad maybe try diluting the solution first and having a go.

hmmm good plan. I used it once before on some rattly wheels and it did lift the paint. The Subaru ones are the winter wheels and the brake dust black marks, salt etc have not done them much good. Still the paint looks ok but i was a bit hesitant to just slap the stuff on there, especially knowing how rough it is. Never thought about diluting. Doh!

I have used Wonder Wheels for the last 8 years on my scoobs. I have the Prodrive WRC 10 spoke gold alloys and the silver centre cap has corroded I think due to the Wonder Wheels. The wheels are five years old now and so need a re-furb anyway.

I have previously tried muc off I think it's called and that stuff was useless. If your washing your wheels bi-weekly then you can probably get away with it. However a winter and lots of brake dust I am finding only Wonder Wheels to do the job and even that is taking a few washes to get them clean.

Watch this stuff though as even diluted it has eaten into the lino in the kitchen Also, excellent weed killer when watered down Don't get it anywhere near your bodywork paint.

At the end of the day we all know that protection is the best bet here. As said before I tend to stay away from these acidic based cleaners. Every 6 months I will clay, cleanse and wax my wheels just like you would do with your bodywork. I would then clean as normal every 1-2 weeks (waxing again after 3 months) but if they needed some extra cleaning I would use AutoGlym Engine and Machine Degreaser which is water based and safe for all alloy wheels.

For safe weekly use Menzerna Gel 7.5 has excellent cleaning power but it pH neutral - our product of choice for routine maintenance where normal shampoo suds aren't enough. If you end up in a situation where a stronger cleaner is needed, then Meguiars Wheel Brightener is good, and a lot safer than Wonder Wheels. I'm actually surprised they can legally sell the latter!
