Default Crystal Grey Paint - Best Finish? How?

Hi All,

Need some advise....

What is the best product to darken and give a deep shine to Crystal Grey?

I have read a few threads on using a sealent, if there are swirl marks on the paint should you treat these first before putting on the sealent? or would the sealent remove them????

What is the best method of application to your suggestion???

Cheers

I'm a little short on time tonight, but for starters I recommend you grab a cuppa and read these guides:

1. This one covers paint defects in Subaru paint, and how to tackle them by hand or machine, thus giving you an ides of the options open to...

https://www.scoobynet.com/car-care-3...d-machine.html

2. This one covers what to use and why on mid tone grey metallics - I would go with the Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic system for the best results...

https://www.scoobynet.com/car-care-3...hite-grey.html

and here's a link to the kit description on our site...

Hope that helps for now, if you have further questions after reading the above give me a call on Monday - Rich @Polished Bliss, 0845 4540017.

At the moment I'm using Swissvax Saphir Wax which gives great protection and gives a great wet look. From what I understand from PBs advice a wax will mute the flake 'pop' while a sealant won't. So it all depends on what finish you are after.

53WRX - Have you tried Light Fantastic or Diamond White as they are more suitable for lighter coloured cars? Out of interest do you know the Carnauba percentage of the Dodo wax you are using and why do you use 2 different waxes - for looks or protection? Any info much appreciated.

I have most of the range including those 2 but am saving them for a silver car I have to do soon.

As a goto wax I like the Banana Armour on mine, although the finish is quite clinical and needs the softer wax to add more depth/wetness. The hard waxes have superb durability and the finish is very very smooth. The softer waxes add that bit extra over the top and I went for a darker wax to warm up the finish.

I am going to be trying the Blue Velvet on Crystal Grey as well topped up with Purple Haze. On their own I would expect the Light Fantastic or Diamond White to accentuate the silver look to the Crystal Grey which isn't to my taste.

These are some durabilty videos I did for the banana/purple combo. I will be washing it again tomorrow and it is still looking good and retains a great deal of the dodo protection. Being well protected makes bird poo removal and maintaing a good finsh so much easier, not to mention making drying the car using the sheeting/pat drying method 10times quicker !

53WRX - I feel sometimes I get slated for using a boutique wax (Swissvax Saphir £68) but when you are using 2 waxes at around £32 each what is the point as you are spending the roughly the same as me to get more or less the same finish and protection (my car also sheets that well). As an objective point here, what is the point of using 2 products when 1 will do the same job?

Different qualities, hard wax with durability soft wax greater depth but less durable. Layered you get the best of both, especially as I would do 2 layers any how. Swissvax Saphir £68 I use Best of Show and Zymol Concours and I wouldn't swap my Dodo for either

Very interesting as my next step up was going to be BOS. One more question mate - how long would you leave in between the 2 wax coats?

IIRC 24 hours is preferable but I tend to leave it a week purely due to time and weather. BOS is great but its not worth the £120 premium, depending on your budget/wax preference I would go for either the hard wax banana or blue velvet and then a soft wax over the top like orange crush or purple haze.

I used to use the BOS on the silver passat I had and it looked fantastic, but there is not much between it and the finish of the dodo and the dodo has lasted beyond my expectations.

Cheers, but do you not think that 2 x £32.50 for Dodo and £68.00 for Swissvax is a bit steep. Is there not another product which can darken and give a wet look finish.....without breaking the bank....lol

There are 3 things I look for in car care products -
Protection
Finish
Ease of Application

I cannot fault Swissvax on any of these. Like Stella, reassuringly expensive.

Nothing to add to that

BUT they last bloody ages, so it seems alot but only as the cost is all upfront
