mine used to be between 1 and 2.5MB/s
That was on a new build estate, where the wiring was rubbish.
Thankfully I am able to get Fibre Optic now, so jumped from that to about 60MB/s although I do pay a fair bit more.

Do you run it through a filter? If so try plugging it direct into the phone socket. If I remember correctly, take out the 2 little screws in the phone socket and you will see a socket behind there, plug into that and see what speeds your getting. What speeds does your contract/package say?

I had poor speeds a while ago, they used to be OK, but I suspect that "contention" was the big issue
both within my house - 5 or 6 devices at any one time and on the exchange itself
to the point where iplayer or youtube was unusable, especially in the evenings
upgraded to Infinity - and wow - what a difference, never see the "buffer" icon, even with 2 or 3 people downloading stuff

Hi yes i have a filter, in my old place i was with BT they sent me a new front for the phone socket to help speed up connection, it did a little but nothing amazing.
Yes your correct there is 2 screws and plug behind as had to remove it in the past for internet problems. Will give it a whurl, why you thinking could be filter fault?
Mate lives down the road he gets 5mb which is abit better, if i could just get 5+ i'd be happy

Probably not filter but worth a check it might speed things up a little?Thing is now that everyone is online the crappy exchange boxes get slower and the further away you are the worse it gets
a lot more people are switching to fiber optic,it's a lot more reliable and it means the rip off company's won't bother spending money on the old exchanges, just another way to get people switching to fiber so they can screw even more of our hard earnt cash off us! Greedy barstuards

Originally when I moved into my house the connection speed was circa 0.5mb/s
Eventually managed to get a BT guy out, he tested the line and found that the speed of the connection just before entering the house was circa 1.5-2mb/s
So in the 3ft between that point and the master socket in the house it dropped down to 0.5mb/s
The solution was to disconnect the Master Socket in the house and set up a new one, which he wired up directly himself from the outside to the new one.
This gave me usable internet (still ****) but bit more useable.
This could also work for you, maybe lifting yours up to the 5mb/s level.
