BE broadband always served me well then i got a good deal with BT. Their BB was fine but the customer service was truly shocking (that's if you could understand the ethnic minority). Never again will i go back to them on the strength of that alone.
Now with Sky (who now own BE Broadband) and i'm happy again. 7mb connection is just fine for me and in my experience, great customer service.

Stick your new postcode in to a broadband checker, eg. http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker
You'll get a list of who is at the exchange and thus some of your options. If you go and check at BT directly they'll tell you when FTTC is scheduled, if it is, although from experience I'd take the dates with a pinch of salt. I've a friend on the same exchange as me and I've had FTTC for 3 or 4 years now and my friends number reports a date that when it arrives goes out an other 6 months, repeat.
For ADSL,if you use an LLU provider then the only BT bit it is the physical cable as the ISP has their own kit in the exchange. Not sure what happens with FTTC, I assume basically the same.
P.S. Happy PlusNet customer here, although owned by BT they do have call centres in Yorkshire.
