Decent contract phone for not many £££?
OK, so what's a decent little phone?
I presently have a Samsung Galaxy fame, after Virgin lied to me and told me the Galaxy Ace was no longer available. It has been unreliable, and Virgin uninterested
It's on a very small contract, 75 mins talk, 250 texts and 250MB, £8.50. I certainly don't need the talk time, but do want something that's reasonable when abroad, (France).
Anyone recommend anything or another provider, not the toothy one's company?
And please....no Apple recommendations...I don't agree with how they do business.

So far ive been very happy with "3", i wouldn't touch Vodafone with a barge pole. With "3" you don't get charged extra for 800 numbers and a few other similar numbers, you get 4G for free, a lot of other providers charge you for 4G as you need to get a 4G contract from them.
I would buy your own phone and go sim only, you can get 1 month or 12 month deals.

If you want decent rates abroad, 3 are obviously head and shoulders above the rest in terms of low (or non-existent) roaming charges. As for an actual phone, as others have pointed out, look for a one or two-year old model on discount, or get a cheap and cheerful Chinese clone from Ebay, Aliexpress, or Hongkongeek (with a contract SIM).
From talking to people who use them at work, Windows phones have improved a lot in the past couple of years, although my choice would still be Android.

I bought alcatel idol mini on some deal for 50 quid with 10 quid ee sim pack included ( unlock for £1.5 on net ) and 20 quid marks and sparks voucher.
It does all you could need, and most crucially its a twentieth the price of an iphone

You can't get better for less (£11 per month):
http://shop.tescomobile.com/pay-mont...+4g?deal=19788
or the new model (£14.50 per month):

you ask for advice and then come back with that. OK know not to bother in future. And guess what existing customer deals aren't comparable to normal deals.

Or just buy a used phone from this company. I would trust buying a phone from these over most people and the grade C quality has been really good in my experience.

What about something like this?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unlocked-5...item3a9f166b23
And what does "dual SIM" mean?

As for that specific phone, after browsing through that seller's list, the two main things I'd consider if I was picking one to buy from him are:
1. Can I find a purpose-made flip-case for that model (either on Ebay or aliexpress.com)? A lot of them do, but not all.
2. Is the better security of Android KitKat (4.4) over Jellybean (4.2) a higher priority for me, or the fact that a lot of Android apps still aren't supported on KitKat (Yahoo weather, Autotrader, etc)?
The rest is down to styling, screen-size, etc. Any of the quad core or higher offerings will do a perfectly adequate job of making calls, basic browsing, sat-nav, etc, and the low prices speak for themselves.

Motorola were and still are very good phones, they went through a bad patch when Nokia pinched their design team, but they were and still are world leaders in electronics and do a hell of a lot of military systems work, a lot of the technology we use today wouldn't exist without them.
Fashion has seen them side lined over recent years but as a technology firm they are at the top of the tree, that's why they were the market leaders for almost 20yrs.
My Nokia Lumina 630 is a great little phone and cost a fraction of the cost of most things out there and does everything and more than I could ever need it to do. I have had it about 6 months now and it's not missed a beat and the battery lasts about a week, ok I don't use it much but the samsung I had before with similar usage lasted about 2 days and started having problems with it after about a year.
The Nokia is easy to use and that's coming from someone that hates windows, but the phone only cost £9 with a £10 a month contract, so if it works then I'm happy, plenty of apps too, I have satnav, weather and a load of free music amongst other things and I didn't have to pay for European maps either.
