An end to free Windows 10?
Wife says the free offer is ending.
Is it worth doing on a computer running Windows 7?
And if I choose to do it to my laptop in France, will I exceed my internet limit of 3Gb per month? (At present).

Really disappointed with Windows 10 - the one PC I have tried it on now runs very slow with continuous high disk activity - it has seriously put me off upgrading anything else. I have Googled it and tried all sorts of fixes (I am in Computers) but it is virtually unusable. The Programs/Start Bar functionality has disappeared a few times but I have been able to fix this using info on Microsoft website. The PC regularly crashes (as though it is running out of memory).
Whilst on the subject of Microsoft - does anyone use Hotmail and if so are they having issues with copying and selecting text? - I've not found a cure for that yet. It has worked for years - and they seem to have removed the feature?

Interesting about Microsoft today. Apparently they have changed the offer to download and install Windows 10 so that clicking on the red "X" at top right now starts it.
I thought that only happened on adverts on **** sites, allegedly?
How sneaky?
THAT'S probably what happened to my wife's computer!

I think I will be leaving my work laptop on windows 7 then after reading this, not risking screwing up a £5K laptop over a operating system upgrade.
My try the laptop I let my Mrs use to evaluate it first

yes. When you download the upgrade tool from the Windows 10 website, it gives you two options. Upgrade the machine that you are on and upgrade another machine. Choose the second option and it downloads the installer which you can place on a flash drive and then use it on any other PC.

Never done and Upgrade to 10 as I hate upgrading OS's however I have done tonnes of fresh installs and never had any issues.
Then again my own PC is pretty beefy spec wise and so it runs like a charm.
Windows 10 runs like a dream on an SSD.
But if you run an upgrade on a 7 year old Windows 7 Pc its going to run badly, but then again i'd be surprised to hear if the PC was alright in the first place.

If you've upgraded to Windows 10 and done nothing else, then, ensuring that your Windows 10 is activated, I'd advise you back up all your data and do a full wipe and clean installation of Windows 10. An upgrade will always get issues as it still has old legacy stuff in it. I've had no compatibility or performance issues having done a clean install.
Thanks for the advice. I'd like to do a clean rebuild but its finding the time - there is a fair amount of stuff on there that needs backing up / transferring across / reinstalling.
Cheers,
Ian.

Mine was a new pc that had 8 preinstalled and when turning on for the first time the option was there for an upgrade to 10 so I took it before doing anything else with the pc.

I have installed Win10 on my laptop over win7 pro. It went fine and only un installed some of the hp utilities. I have been running. Win10 on another so was satisfied I liked it. I switched off all the privacy settings.
The only issue with install was I had to set win10 ssd drive to first boot device.
It's ok just another operating system
